Pic request for firewall
I would like to see some photos of the the firewall area and under hood images for 71-72 SSP's or Roadrunners. I'm in the process of restoring my 72 SSP engine bay and I would like to get the paint colors as close as possible.
I need to see things like the wiper motor (my is a 3 speed), brake booster, etc...
I'm trying to detail as much as possible. The previous owner just painted everything mounted on the firewall and fenders black, even the wiring harness. Now I'm in the process of cleaning the black paint off everything and planning to return it back to original color(s). My car is a TX9 black car but I know some of the items under the hood where painted different colors.
Pictures will be a big help.

First off, it might be a good idea to find and buy a copy of a Road Runner Restoration Guide. I found one on Amazon for a very reasonable price not long ago.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... estoration
Roseville Moparts in Michigan would be a good source of info and, I believe, even actual paint for under-hood paints. Check out their website.

If all-out originality is your goal, it's important to get the right percentage of gloss content in satin or semi-gloss paints. Hard to tell this from pics alone.

On second thought, scratch the restoration guide book - it's black and white and doesn't say much about paint colors. I have and e-body book that goes into great detail on this subject, and it's reasonable to assume the bees follow the same pattern.
I'm attaching a pic of a survivor-car 71 SSP. This pic is greatly reduced. The original is 4000 x 3000 pixels and shows a fair amount of detail. If you think it would help, I can send it to your private email account. Send me a private message.
WTF. I can get any pics to upload at the moment. Send private message and I'll send you the file. It's over 5 MB size.

Really the only way to get the wiper motor and brake booster right is to send them off to be striped and re plated.

Re: Pic request for firewall
According to the restoration guide, wiper motors were all gloss black. Brake boosters gets sketchier. There were two different units made by Midland Ross, depending on brake drum sizes. Midland Ross units use a ring clamp to hold the two halves of the booster together. Bendix units have crimps around the outside. Midland Ross units appear to have been cadmium plated. Can't find anything on the Bendix unit. I have seen spray-on products that simulated the plating. Check at Eastwood.com. Don't know how authentic it looks.
Maybe the way to proceed is to ask about each piece specifically. Not many responses so far- maybe because a lot of cars are put away for winter. They'll be out soon, including mine.

Survivors are the best source for correct finishes, even then some service parts may have been replaced. I would focus on 72s to find the most accurate finishes for your car. 72 SSP survivor

Duh, don't know why I was looking for 1971 info for you. Brain dead.
Eric is right. Unfortunately, there is very little published info about restoring Plymouth b-bodies made after 71.

Another low mile 72 Satellite...apparently cars painted GY4 didn't leave the garage very often
