Help! New seats don't fit...

Post by billzilla » Sun Feb 17, 2008 2:53 am

I got '72 B Body seats (out of a Barracuda) - they look identical to any Sat/RR/GTX '72 seats. I was told that they match up 100% to '71 bolt holes.

The space between the front and back bolts on one rail of the seat that came out of the car (bear in mind it originally had bench and was fitted with buckets) is about 12". On the new car, it's about 8-9".

In short, the new seats have different bolt spacing... And the bolts seem welded in or something - they're not budging if I try to tap them out of the rails.

Any ideas? :(

Had similar problem when I went from bench to bucket in my 71RR and my brothers 70rr with after market buckets.

The bolts where welded in. We cut them off and ground flush then replace with similar size bolts in the holes with the correct spaceing to fit the holes in the car floor.

PINA!

When i took my bench out it was only 2 bolts at each and,i saw no other holes where a bucket seat would go in,maybe the to original holes would be fine for the side of teh bucktes closer to the doors but the other ones you might have to make holes for them

My Satellite had buckets when I got it (but it originally had bench).

I don't know if the seats that are in there are wrong, the holes wrong or the new '72 Charger seats wrong, but they don't line up.

I originally said these were Cuda seats, but they're Charger. Everyone said they'd fit, including the guy I got them from.

This is a major drag, not just because I gave $300 for these last night, but that the seats I have are seriously screwed up, at least the driver seat. The frame seems bent or something and it sits WAY back and I can't adjust it to sit upright properly.

As I'd said in the previous post, there were two hole locations (differing side to side) for bench and bucket cars. The photo shows bench location (taken from under the car)....you can barely see the other hole only in the brace (not through the floor pan) just below. Both front and back align with the welded in bracing shown. Look and measure underneath, your stud to stud (studs on the seat track not bolts) spacing should match the opening spacing in the brackets.

This photo shows where the holes for bucket seats need to be:

Well, there's no spot welded bracing plate, just a plate that the bottom bolt threads up through (inside holes closer to driveline). They all seem to be in the right place, but I will take pics tomorrow when the carpet is totally out of the car.

The reinforcing plates only came on bucket seat cars, not on bench. Most people don't add them when they convert to buckets
