running bird decal placement on vinyl top car

Post by mopardan64 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 4:55 pm

Hey everyone, new member here....I've got a 71 rr, full vinyl top car; Could someone send me, or post a picture of the correct placement of the "running bird" decal above the quarter flanked rr emblems. I went to the Hamtramck site and looked at the engineering drawing...it is not totally clear. According to the drawing, the decal appears to sit directly (maybe 1/4") above the emblems, with the birds neck extending half-way past the 'r' in runner on the passinger side and 'r' in road on the driver side. Is this correct?
Thank you in advance for your assistance. my email is drhodes@webspyder.com

Eric, I noticed that on most of the decal placement they use the paper as a guide, not measurements. 8)

Oops, I missed the second part of your post Dan (that you'd already looked at the diagrams on Barry's site). Here is my original paint road runner. The bird decals have been replaced, but in the exact location of the originals (paint fade outlines made this very easy).

Eric, that is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks to everyone. I have seen many decals which are centered above the "road runner" when I saw the engineering drawings which depicted the bird head and neck extending past the emblems......I had to ask. Thanks y'all very much. This is a great site!

While we're on the subject of road runner decals....
Make sure you get correct ones. Many of the reproductions have wrong colors, especially the legs and dust trails. They should be orange like the ones in my photos. A lot of the repros I've seen are almost red. Also, the black feather outlines inside the overall outline should be thin. Many are much heavier.
NOS is best if you can find them, if not, Performance Car Graphics are the next best. This applies to the strobe stripe decals as well.
