Guys, I converted my interior to all-black, as it was parchment originally. The parts car I took the interior from had a beautiful dash frame, all black, not one scratch, and the cluster was super nice too. Of course, the VIN plate was a problem. I moved it over to the dash I was using. The net result was the same VIN plate in the same car it came from. This isn't quite the same offense, is it?

You can buy the nos rivits for the vin tag, if you need to put your vin on a different dash frame. I switched vins once because I installed air in a b body. I couldnt find the correct rivits so I ground the back of the rivits so I could save the rivit head. When I put it back together I epoxied the rivits into place from the back. When it was done you couldnt tell that it was changed.
Now to give my point of view on the subject of putting a different vin in a doner body. Some of you might not agree with me but here I go. I dont see a problem with doing that, as long as the vin has a salvage title or a dismantle certifacate. And as long as the person doing it is doing it is not trying to bs about and is up front with this info.
There is more to it than just switching tags. The sequential numbers are stamped in a number of places on the body of the car. So you would have to restamp all those numbers. Still you wont have a numbers matching car, unless you restamp all the id #'s on the drive train. So far this looks to me like it could happen all the time. If you get the fender tag with the vin your in good shape. If not you can get one of those with no problem. One way is to send or fax a copy of the broadcast sheet. If you dont have one from that vin you can make one from an old broadcast sheet. It not hard because its a copy and its old. So now your next step is to make a broadcast sheet, photo copy it and send it off, 2 weeks later you have the fender tag for your bogus ride. You really dont need a broadcast sheet because you have the rest. If you dont think this happens I think you are mistaken. It's sad that hard working people are getting swindled.
It,s always a black day when a mopar muscle car goes to the crusher but it is bound to happen sooner or later, but if that car can be put back on the road with new skin so be it. As long as everybody knows what it is, a clone. Once a car has a salvage title it will be stated so on the new title.

My latest car came from Tennessee, instead of a title I got a permit to dismantle that is dated 8/24/79. There is no rust on it and the only damage was on the right side where it looked liked someone lightly side swiped something. It was far from totaled. I talked to a few title companies and they told me when I title the car in Wisconsin the new title will state that this car once held a salvage title or a permit to dismantle. I'm sure it varies from state to state. Before it can be driven it will have to be inspected by the state police to make sure it is safe to be driven.

Not to be blunt, but it really doesn't matter if you do or don't see a problem with it. Oh, and your point with a salvage title, any car that is sold to a boneyard for any reason will wind up with a salvage title. A car doesn't have to be totaled, it could have a bad motor, trans or whatever and still have a perfectly workable body. It isn't all that tough to "cleanse" a title for an older car - don't forget, there are some states that don't do titles for cars over a certain age - they just change hands with bill of sale.

I actually went thru this with the ohio DMV years ago.The dash vin did not match the rest of the body numbers.The Dmv did not care! as long as the dash matched the title and the title was clear it was fine with them.Maybe if it was a new vette or porsche or something they would look into it but not for a 30 some year old car.

according to that statement a clone is just as good as the real thing.. It turns out that I met the guy selling this stuff, I bought some parts for a 72 from him, nice guy, but fraud is fraud, some day, some one will spend way too much money for a clone, that is advertised as real.
What happens if a single letter, lets say RL21G2 gets changed to RL21V2, what happens to the value of the car? I can send off for a title, would it be real?

Fraud is fraud. This is why I always tell people to KNOW what you are buying! I will never buy a car in which the numbers on the VIN, door, fender tag, and the other places stamped on the car, do not match. I aint gonna stick a boatload of cash into a car to possibly have it taken for mismatched numbers. Jail time dont sound cool to me.....
