I was looking at a 71 GTX 440 6bbl on e-bay On the fender tag it says R22. R22 is am radio with 8-track player. In a 71 b-body ? :?

I know the guy selling that car, and I doubt he knows it, but that looks like a reproduction tag to me. R22 does not list as an available option for 71 B bodies...so my guess is it's bogus. Also, I do not have any other R22 cars in the registry....

The more I look at that car, the more I find wrong! From the incorrect fender tag (with incorrect codes, codes not showing that should be there according to the article, and incorrect fonts) to the lack of factory undercoating on the inside of the quarter panels on a car that is supposed to be all original sheetmetal...I would stay away from that car as an investment!
Also why he's selling it with such a low starting bid and no reserve....seems like maybe he knows something is fishy too.....

Eric, you're the pro in spotting the details. He may or may not know about the discrepencies (sp?), but I have had dealings with him before, and he seems to be a straight up guy. He's also friend's with some pretty knowledgeble people concerning 71 b-body's. He always sells his things on ebay at no reserve. He usually gets top dollar too. I would never take the chance with something that valuable, but to each their own I guess. It will be interesting to see what it brings.

I had forgotten that he sells everything with no reserve. I bought a PS cooler from him a while ago for a very good price.
I bet whoever buys the car will not realize the tag is a fake. The date code seems to be correct for the VIN, I just wonder what else was added or changed (did it start out life as a triple green car with few options). I would guess that the guy in the article did the changes back in the 90s....

Eric, you may be right. I'm tempted to ask him about the tag since I've had dealings with him before. I bought a full driver's side quarter panel from him for a great price.

The VIN listed tells the story- RM..... ROAD RUNNER- if a guy is promoting Mopars as he is- he has to know better than to list the car as a GTX with that VIN.
4th generation B bodys- there is no substitute.

I'm sure it's just a typo. He used to have a 71 Hemi 'Runner. He may have had a brain fart when he was typing.
