Geez, I was just trying to help this guy advertise his car accurately, lol.
Didn't think it would come to fisticuffs...er....fistikeys!

I suppose there is a possibility somebody slipped up on the assembly line and tagged a non-440 car with GTX emblems by mistake. I worked at a Saturn dealer for a while. Factory guys make mistakes all the time, and oftentimes no one catches it on the way out. One brand new Aura off the truck was missing the C-clip that holds in the P/S rack input shaft seal.
The seal popped out en-route to our dealership, and all the fluid had leaked out. Another had a non-functioning Onstar unit. There are many more.

Ya never know boys!

 I wasn't trying to argue with anyone. I was trying to help. People are often misinformed and end out getting ripped off.

By the way when you order a /72 Roadrunner with the GTX package, it came either auto or 4-speed. This was also the last year of the hemi 4/speed and the dana 60. '73,'74 are 440 auto only.

Cheers, I guess with all the different information we are getting we should put this topic to rest and settle this matter as true Mopar guys. And to Dave, thanks for the added info.

I don't think the hemi was available in 1972. It's not in my FSM, parts manual, or listed in the VIN decode. The 440 six pack apparently was as it is listed, and I think the dana 60 came with it. You may have been able to order it with other engines but I don't really know as mine came with an 8 3/4.

As has been mentioned the "GTX package" is not an order item. It just came with a 440. FWIW somebody "goofed" when they put the GTX emblem on my trunk. Instead of being on the right side with the standing bird decal it was on the left. I put it back on the left side when I restored the car.

Got it...in the words of that pillar of intellect, Homer Simpson....DOH!

Speaking of stuff like that...just picked up the Mopar Authentic Performance Restoration Parts Book. Looks like they're making a lot of stuff and hope they keep going. I found they are making brand new drive shafts with the back end yoke not welded on so they can be shortened for custom installations. The are the big 7290 yoke and are only $289.00. Lot cheaper than I would have thought.

Year One has a lot of this stuff in their catalog too. Interestingly enough the sill plates from Year One were cheaper than from Mopar. Same exact part, same exact Mopar packaging.

“Oops, I did forget one thing, the 2 RM23V2 cars are also RR/GTXs. Don't want to exclude a certain member's ultra-rare ride.”

Do I understand you to say there were only two V-coded RRs produced in 72? What additional information can be had about them? A year ago I was hit with the urge to buy and restore a 72’ RR after 30+years of doing other things. What had me looking for the 72’ was my memories of driving and working on a friend’s new six-pack/4-speed 72’ RR/GTX back in the day. I believe that car was ordered that way, I recall how ever he had built up the motor right away and may have added the six-pack. I had no idea at the time it was so rare.
The car I found and purchased is one of the automatic “U” code RR/GTXs some what heartily debated on this thread. It needs lots of TLC, but has tons of potential. Tags are MIA and what’s left of the build sheet was found as part of a rodent nest in the center console.

Well there is one 1 known 1972 440+6 Road Runner (Larry's car).
Look in the General Discussion thread for "440 six pak for 1972" post.
Larry posted pictures of the tag!!!!!!
Holy Grail stuff!!!!

The other 1972 Road Runner 440+6 was only a vin number in an DMV database (last titled in Iowa) (no information to say it ever existed ... might be a typo from a U code typed V code on title).
There are 2 known 1972 Charger 440 Six Packs to exist also.
Per Galen Govier "rumor has it 7 were built" .... meaning 1972 V code b-bodies (Charger or Road Runner)
