I'll agree there. Every car I've parted out, the very first thing I do is pull the glove box, and use that nice plastic tub as a bolt box as I part the thing out. I'm sure out in the garage I have at least 3 or 4 of them sitting around.1bluegtx wrote:Don't worry about cutting up the glove box as originals and repros are easy to get.
Putting it in the glove box is a great solution. Personally, I really like Road Chicken's solution, though while expensive, it's a really slick setup. For Project Blue Bird, I have an original AM/FM/Cassette setup for it, and I found a group that does restorations to the original radios (though he can't help with the cassette unit as parts are impossible to find).
Ward's Classic Car Radio Repair
Also not an inexpensive solution, but they do such a good job on the cosmetic restoration alone, that I think it will be worth it.

Sirius Satellite for the Serious Satellite.
You guys are talkin about cd players, and I'm gettin all google eyed over a Craig 8-Track Quadrapenia player I bought off of e-bay. Have had it gone over by our local television repair shop, and the darn thing is as good as new.
Now, it ain't gonna replace the mp3 system and the Sirius Satellite I'm putting in my Serious Satellite, but it is a hoot!

I was going to replace my am radio with a factory am/fm job, and then tie it into a CD changer in the trunk. However... when I started pricing up what people want for a used factory FM radio, I quickly changed my mind.
Now, I'm just going to purchase an in dash am/fm CD/mp3 player, and mount it under the drivers front seat. Note that I can do this because there is a ton of room under the factory front bench. But if I had buckets like in my wifes Cuda, I would build a box for in the glove box instead. In my wifes car, I just made one small hole in the liner for wires and ground strap to pass through, and mounted a custom built box to the mounting screws for the liner.
I've also seen people build a whole new glove box liner out of steel with the stereo mounted in the top portion.
Once I get my floor box built, I'll post some pics. It will be invisible if you don't look under the seat (or glove box in your case).
