Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)

So continuing on - I got a chance to finish welding up the edges of the trunk pan to the inner wheel housings.
With the car on it's side the tuff area's were easier to get to.
This is the passenger side.

And here's the drivers side.

If you look closely, you can see a partial part number.

And I also tackled that dreaded separated bottom lip on the drivers side. First I cut an access opening in the outer wheel housing to have a look on the other side.

Looks okay in there.

So, with the help of a few tools.....

I was able to close up the gap and put down some plug welds.

Apologies, I know you weren't asking me, but it looks like they're just using the forum's 'upload attachment' feature?

My small local ISP actually allows me a small amount of FTP space that I upload pics to via Filezilla FTP client; may check with yours?. And I always process pics with photoshop's 'save for web' option before uploading, which drastically cuts down on the files size without noticably affecting the image quality. Hope that helps.

You are correct Midnight_rider, I use the forums upload attachment option.
But first I have to resize my photo's.
So after downloading my photo's from my phone to my PC I use the Windows Office picture manager program to resize the pics, so the will work with the forums upload attachment option.

So, moving on.......I started removing the old undercoating in the rear wheel well area.
And look what I find.......

More gold paint!
The more I scraped....

The more I found.
So I tried removing some off the rear frame section - More paint.

Now about that funny bracket that a previous owner welded on......I have no clue as to why it's there.
Originally I thought it might be there to hold the car down if it's on a car trailer, but then it looks to wimpy to do that. Anyway, I took off as much as I could on the inner wheel housing as I will be putting in new outer ones.

So now that I have this attaching picture thing worked out, back to this thread.
So in December, more scraping and undercoating removal. Here's the passenger side front corner.

Since the car is on a rotisserie, wouldn't it be easier to blast it now instead of scrapping? What are you using and or doing to get it that clean?

rr6pak, I agree with you - it would be a great idea to sand blast it.
But you know the ol' saying "Champagne taste, beer budget" that's me.
My air compressor is in the garage that's attached to the house & it's about 100ft. from my garage that the Runner is in.
I don't have my big garage properly wired in right now. Believe it or not a heavy duty 100 ft extension cord is feeding my garage.
It works great, it feeds my lights and my mig welder with no issues.
I did purchase a small hand held blaster to get into the tight nooks and crannies that I can't reach by hand.
As soon as the weather warms, I'll try and run a 100 ft air line to the big garage and give it a try.

Here's my current arsenal of tools that I use to get it clean.

Different size scrapers and a chisel (made by Sears go figure) as well as power tools. I use a fiber wheel mostly with the occasional use of a wire wheel.
Then I use the purple paint scraper wheel alot too.
I used the fiber wheel to clean the torsion bar mount and it came out that clean.

So after a brief hiatus, I'm back at it.
I mentioned in the past about this weird bracket that was on the frame rail.

I decided to remove it. Now I know why it was there in the first place......to cover up 2 holes.

So a while ago I bought a rear frame cap that Auto Rust technicians make. I bought it from a guy off of Moparts.
I was going to cap the whole frame section after I found the 2 holes - I even started to prep the cap for installation.

But I decided against it. What I did was slice a piece off the cap to fit around the holes. Here's what it looks like already welded in place.

After I finished that I started cleaning up the drivers area between the frame rail and inner wheel housing. Here's the progress.

Thanks rr6pak - I've been trying to get into the garage and work on her every weekend, but am currently helping my wife getting her parents condo ready to sell as they were recently moved into an extended care home. They are both 88 years young.
Once it's sold and the dust settles, I'll have a regular schedule back on my Runner.
