Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)

While the cowl area is exposed, I put some rust paint inside, to stop any more rust.

It looks like there will be two patches in this area - one partially over top the other as it looked from the factory. Here's a partial start on the first patch.

Along with a little welding.

I hear ya rr6pak - I do have new AMD trunk extensions along with outer wheel housings and full rear quarters for this car. When I had my 76 Road Runner, they too were notorious for rust in those area's as well.
All I did this weekend was close up the first patch from the previous weekend.

Today I put on the second patch. I lined up the bottom edge with the existing bottom edge of the firewall that's on the other side of the inner fender. Unfortunately I could not put a bead on the patch like the rest of that panel has. Here's the patch before welding.

Now here it is welded in.

And finally with a little clean-up.

Now to finish up the rest of that area and put a coat of primer on it.

OK, so after a little hiatus, it is back to workin on the car.
I put some all metal down on the base of the windshield and sanded it down to finish.

Here's the stuff I used.

Next it was on to inside the cowl area.

After scuffing the area down, I applied 2 coats of Rust Bullet. I did have to clean up the area on the drivers side where the reinforcement for the bracket that holds the steering column is located.

You can't see the reinforcement as its higher in the picture.
I was able to get all the way in where the air inlets at either end of the cowl are located.

I applied the Rust bullet with a paint brush. The stuff is great as it flattens out on it's own.

OK guys, back at it today. I'm sanding down the passenger side of the firewall. Since I have the passenger side inner fender out, I'll be prepping the area for the new inner fender to go on. So here's some pics of the sanding done.

So, now I've finished up cleaning the frame rail area and shock tower.

So now it's time to add more Zero rust to the area.

And while I'm at it, apply some to the frame too.

Next to move on to the rad support on that side, then prep the new inner fender.
