'71-74 Headlight switch

Post by rr6pak » Mon Jul 31, 2006 11:37 am

Hey Nest:
Does anyone know how to remove the headlight switch? Also, the knob that goes into the switch. I need to replace mine and I'm not sure how to get the kinob out without breaking it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
:)

SURE No Problem

To release the Knob.....

You HAVE to have access to the switch backside. On the backside there is a spring loaded pin onthe metal side. Depress that pin while pulling out onthe switch knob. The knob AND the triangular shaft will slide out.

Reverse to re-install.

Then you have to spin the nut off. Problem is nobody has the damn socket to fit it. unless you have a buddy with a mill that can make atool- most people just skin their knuckles using a needle nose pliers inthe slots.
4th generation B bodys- there is no substitute.

I found a decent sized phillips screwdriver will actually take the switch retainer right out. The center pretty much corresponds to that shape.
