Re: Instrument Panel "Fasten Seat Belts" lamp
Interesting. I have only seen the chrome beveled "reverse" style lamp mounted on the dash. The style that PasIR shows above I have seen, ( and I think I still have), on the wood grain instrument applique. It is in the "ear" that faces the drivers side window. IE if you were looking into the car from the drivers side you would see the light. I have no clue what year that was from- or if I got it from a Dodge or Plymouth car.

Looks like something from a Ferd of that era. Definitely not OE for any ’71 Chrysler product.
Looks like a '72 and up E-body light

Sad, I thought it was OE from factory.

Re: Instrument Panel "Fasten Seat Belts" lamp
It could be OE, just not for 71. The Dash I had/ have was not hacked together, the hole and lense was a factory deal. Mopar might have used these for just a short time until they hammered out exactly what they wanted to do. Hell , knowing Ma, this could have been a variation from plant to plant.

Yep, but who the h...l has put it there, interesting for sure.
Car is 1-71 built at L.A plant. Odometer shows 70700 miles.

Re: Instrument Panel "Fasten Seat Belts" lamp
I dunno, a mystery to be sure. I mean it works, so i think it's factory. I mean who the hell ( yes I said it
) would go thru the trouble to add it? Some serious whack job that's sole purpose was to cause a stir in a message board some 35 years later. Clever SOB.
Was the car built for export? Maybe something for the country of delivery. Grasping here and just throwing out ideas. Like I said , I have only seen one other. IF I head to the storage unit I'll see if I can dig it out. Waiting for the arctic weather to break first. Brrrr.

Re: Instrument Panel "Fasten Seat Belts" lamp
A close inspection of the wiring in place that allows for the illumination of the pictured lamp will show that lamp is not OE for the ’71 b-body. Aftermarket wiring/connections are pretty easy to spot. Any OE mopar electrical equipment was always very well documented in the corresponding model year FSM, or TSBs for mid year changes, had to be in order to be serviced by dealer personal. Again, the only option listed in the ‘71 service manual is the combined timed reminder lamp referenced above.
As for who would make such alterations, If my old ’70 RR is still alive, it would be an example of many non-correct very factory appearing options from many other later model year Mopars.

It was not built for export.
I had complete dash out last summer because I changed dash pad which was cracked, unfortunately I did not focused warning lamp wiring then.

Re: Instrument Panel "Fasten Seat Belts" lamp
I did some searching and found this is a mopar part ( p/n 3592269) and was use primarily on the 72-4 cudas and challengers, regardless of gauge package. This is located in the same ( relative) place on the b-body cluster I have. Now as far as I remember, the gauge package I have came out of a 72-4 charger. So the question remains how it found its way onto a mid-year 71 build b body. Odds are it's added, since the hole location doesn't seem to jive with where the chrome unit would be placed. Unless your going for OE , most people wouldn't catch it anyway.

Re: Instrument Panel "Fasten Seat Belts" lamp
As it turns out, I have both styles...
one is map light, rear speaker knob...the other is map, knob, fasten seat belt from right to left.
I'm not using either...PM me.

Re: Instrument Panel "Fasten Seat Belts" lamp
Thanks all for the great feedback and especially the excerpt from the dealer brochure and TSB. It is clear now and I understand that a 71 should not have the chrome bezel style indicator. This is the all fascinating info! That Tuff Wheel info is interesting. I like the reference to "tuffy"
