Welcome to the Nest Artemis! Yes, RP23 designates a Satellite Sebring Plus - top of the line for the Satellite models. Standard engine was the small block 318 - you got lucky and found one optioned with the big block. Also cool that you found the Broadcast sheet for the car. I will defer the broadcast sheet questions to others here on the nest. Have you decided what direction you are going with the car? Close to original, clone, or custom? Scott.

You have a 727 auto, they never made a 904 for a big block, unless it was a late thing.

There are much more knowledgeable people on these forums than I but... I have had a couple SSP's and no one else has answered you yet so I will try.

The emblems are emblems and not stickers. Both my cars had some of the emblems removed over the years but I do believe that they were 2 different pieces... Satellite, and Sebring Plus. There are full emblems on the trunk AND both quarters.

As far as standard equipment for a SSP, they were the top of the line Satellite so I think they all had stuff like: V8 (318 standard for the SSP), front wheel disc brakes, AC, automatic trans (typically the 904), deluxe interior (both mine have had bucket seats so I dunno whats up with yours having a bench, I suppose buckets may have been an option), rally gauges, radio, chrome sport mirrors, fender turn signal indicators, etc. Vinyl roof (half or full) was an option on them I think for sure.

As far as paint, both of mine had the 2 tone paint job. Mine were both brown paint with black paint below the body line. My first had the center section of the hood painted black as well, I don't know for sure on this second one as the hood was primed when I got it.

As far as is your car rare... Because it has the 400, it's rarer than most SSP's as far as engines go, although that's not a huge breakthrough I don't believe. The bench seat is a little weird to me because I had never seen a SSP with a bench but I've seen tons of Sat Sebring's with the bench (I have one of those as well). And as for the AC, I do believe the AC was a standard thing on the SSP so I don't think that's all that rare.

I can't really help you out much with pictures of the markings. There is a lot of information available on the site in some of the other forums that will give you links to uploaded original sales brochures. Your car may have had some pinstriping as well as the 2 tone paint, so that's something else to look out for.

Again, there are much more knowledgeable people on these boards and I may be wrong so you will want to do more research to find out for sure what you have, or should I say, what the car had.

Good Luck with it!

Hey Artemis,
The most notable SS Plus upgrades from the Sat. Sebring included: Bucket seats, Rallye dash, and the 318 V8 was the lowest standard engine you could get. The SSP badges consisted of two separate emblems, Satellite and SebringPlus. They are not re-popped at this time. They turn up on eBay once in a while. Emblems go on each quarter panel just behind the door, and on the right side of the trunk lid.

Interesting debate on the transmission. I don't have my decoder ring on right now, but I would think that there would be a 727 behind that big block. The 904 usually went behind the small blocks. An 8 1/4" rear-end usually went behind the small blocks also. Does yours have the 8 1/4", or did they install an 8 3/4" for your big block? Most of the tag decoders on the web are geared for 1969-1971 cars. Some of the option codes changed for 1972-1974. Best bet is to post a clear shot of your fender tag and BC here and let the experts decipher them to be sure how your car was originally set up. If your car came with any stripes or originally came with the bench seat, that will be on the tag and sheet.

As for factory markings and dabs, there is not a ton of information out there for these cars. If you are not restoring this car to exact OEM specifications, (you mentioned going with a black exterior instead of the factory green) - then I would not get too tied up with the markings and dabs. This, of course, is just my opinion - you are the owner and you get to decide what you want to do!

Good luck with your restoration! Scott.

they switched coding on the tag for the 72 model year from D32 to D34....all auto 72 road runners are also coded D34...your car originally came with a 727
