Dumb question about air grabber studs

Post by bandman » Mon May 29, 2006 10:33 pm

Any of you guys who have had an air grabber apart and then assembled (or a stinger repoduction) I need your help.

When installing the studs into the air grabber bulge to put into the hood, which end of the stud goes where?

What I have is a stud with a thin side and a thick side, the thin side has many fine threads and the thick side has fewer threads.

Which side goes into the fiberglass?

Also which direction does the hinge face, up or down?

Thanks for any help, and please don't make fun of me.

The part of the stud with the coarse threads (like that of a wood screw) goes into the fiberglass.Just went out and looked at the hinge mine has the lip for the door turned down towards the engine.although the manual shows it up?

Thanks Brian. One more step toward saying I have an air grabber hood.

How was the fit and finish of the Stinger parts? I see them on www.americansportscar.com and the look pretty good. I just don't know if that was the place someone else had a bad experience with.

not impressed. I bought their satelite hood and air grabber hood. their hood is not bad, bolt on which is sweet, but thier air grabber hood was made for looks, not function. (wish they told me that when they sold the product) if you want a functional air grabber setup buy something else. Problems is where the arms mount on the door, there is a v shaped rib on the fiberglass where the pin that holds the arms go, on the stinger door they filled that in for some reason? so you have to cut it out, reinforce it, and end up in the same spot I'm in lol
you can buy them here, a bit expensive but my dad bought his kit from here and looks more authentic:

I should also mention the hood. I bought it, looks great, bolt on (I had to buy the light springs seperate from a different company) but its short. I mean buy like 2". I have a huge gap between the end of the hood and the header panel and its bugging me. I have played with my gaps and body lines and I can't get it to come close without giving it up on the back end. I thought I'd just put in my 2 cents so you know what your getting into. I spent $1200 for the hood, air grabber door, bubble, and air grabber parts kit (which in the kit the flapper door is the wrong color orange and I had to redrill and move the arms out more) I bought it because they were cheap, and the only one offering a bolt on hood at the time.

Thanks, Thats why I checked. I bought a satty hood to convert to and AG because my original still has a pretty good amount of mud from the rollover years ago. I can fix the cracks in the AG dome
