Would any of these be what you are referring to?

A factory radio will need to be removed to get the cluster out, radio is secured to a rear support. Heater control can come out with the cluster however requires disconnecting the control cables. It should be noted too, that dropping the steering column is highly recommended if not mandatory for extracting the cluster from the dash frame cleanly.

Dropping the steering column sounds scary. Is there any potential to screw up my steering if i do that?

No, it shouldn't hurt anything to drop the steering wheel down some. Just remove the top and side firewall bolts, 1/2 ", and then remove the nuts and round cup washers in the picture you took, the ones with the bolts going through the plastic insulators, 7/76" deep drive. and just lower it down. This gives you enough clearance to get the dash out without catching the edges on anything which might cause it to break.

Do you have a diagram showing wire colors going to the gauges?

The colors of the wires are written on the back of the dash by the terminals. If you want to PM me with your e-mail address, I can scan and send you the wire schematic from my 71 manual. It is the same for all years. Just let me know if you have a standard, ralley, or ralley with clock/tach.

I just want to make sure I know the right colors for which gauges. Sometimes the same wire color appears on the wiring diagram for two different things, and that's confusing.

Didn't you say the gauge wire colors are printed on the back of the cluster? Do you have a photo? I'm trying not to pull my cluster if i can help it.

Violet is the engine temp sender lead, gray-oil pressure, blue-fuel tank sender

I took a pic, but it won't upload to this forum for some reason. I will email to you. I have sent you others so I already have your address. This is of the back of the cluster I just replaced.

Thank you. I have been studying the wiring diagram. For example, in the photo i've attached, you can see that the fuel gauge wire trails off the page and references a code. What does this mean and where does the wire go? I need help understanding how to read the diagrams.
