@Ron - I drilled the holes from inside the footwell. If you remove the kick panel and the insulation pad, there's room for drilling.

The mounting depth of the speaker units is 45mm and they have rather large diameter magnets. I think they could be 50mm deep and still clear the mounting 'knobs' that holds the window on to the window mechanism.

Hi, all. I can take pictures because it's too hard to post on here so i'll just have to describe my deal. I'm all about stock looks with modern results, stealth in other words.A little background just to frame my thinking. I bought my car in 1974 when I was 19, so I kinda am trying to relive my youth, that is until reality sets in. 71 RR with AM radio. I had the original fixed, and the original speaker reckoned. AM so I can listen to Rush. While I was over seas I bought a Pioneer KP-500 Supertuner FM cassette deck, and listened to that.So here we are today. I'm going to use that pioneer feeding going through a speaker level converter to take the ampiflied signal down to a level for an amp. Then I have a 100 watt amp under the package tray going to two 6x9 Infinity reference speakers.I tried an iPod ,but you can't bypass the built in amp on those, and unless you know what you're doing the files are compress and sampled so much that the sound quality is not up to CD standards. So, I had an ole portable CD player ( walkman type ) with a line out jack that goes into a cassette adapter, and I get Hi Fi sound that is loud enough to give you sound fatuge. But what I gain is a complete period look.I am going to mount the Pioneer on the console where a factory cassette would have been.Wish I could do pictures.

Dangina - The Retrosound does not have a separate out for a subwoofer. It has 4 RCA outputs, 2 front, 2 rear. See the manual at bottom of the page of this link. http://www.retrosoundusa.com/faq

http://www.retroradio.biz/

little bit more expensive but they will use your old radio and convert it into MP3, USB, 4 RCA's, Subout ect. but atleast your getting that oem stock look! This may just have to be a christmas gift

Here's my version of restrosound.I want the old school look with modern a result.I bought this Pioneer KP-500 FM cassette deck in 1976 and used in this very car so I want to keep using it. I reconed the factory dash speaker for listing to Rush Limbaugh on the original AM radio.I tried an iPod but found that a Sony walkman cd player with a line out jack sounds better, CD quality sound.I use the line out to bypass the headphone amp in the walkman, its like having pre outs. Then I use the cassette adaptor to go in the cassette. After that the signal goes into the little blue box which takes the amplified signal down to a lower level for the main amp.In the trunk I have a 100 watt per channel Orion amp with Infinity Reference three way 6x9s.The reason I chose Infinity is that they have the highest sensitivity rating I have looked at.That means they are louder with the same amount of power than other speakers, and at 2 ohms the amp then puts out 155 watts per channel.I ran as many wires as I could inside of the cars structure and the amps power wire through a unused hole in the firewall, and will hook it to the starter so most people will not see it.The tape deck will be mounted where the factory cassette deck was on top of the console, and every thing will be hidden. After hooking everything up just to see how it works, and with just two 6x9s you couldn't stand more than one song with it turned up very high.Anyway thats how I'm doing it.

Thanks, when every things done all will be hidden. This car didn't come with a console, but it will have one now. I'm going to mount the cassette on the console where the factory one would have been. I think the cd player will fit inside the console compartment, if not the only time i'll have it out is when I'm driving so I can unplug it and hide it when at a show.

I noticed all the images were gone/deleted, anyway here is mine, I did have to shave the dash a tiny bit right under the unit.

Oh yeah, it did come with a cable for an independent mp3 player to be plugged into. (Which is what I use cause radio stations advertise too much.)

Ron-

Question for you... that "special bracket", was that available with the kit or did you fab that?

I would like to purchase a Retrosound for my '73 but not sure what to get. Bracket looks easy enough to fab. How does it attach? Is there is enough slack for the tuning potentiomemter? How did you judge the faceplate to dash bezel clearence?

I was going to order one from Crutchfield.

Thank-you in advance!

The bracket came with the radio as ordered from RetroSound. It was listed as 1971-74 Plymouth Roadrunner AM/FM Radio system w/ extended bracket. I also thought about ordering from Crutchfield, but played it safe by going directly to RetroSound. You might call Crutchfield and see if they can get the bracket with the radio.

The bracket is attached by screws to the side of the radio. Not sure what you meant by; Is there enough slack for the tuning potentiometer. If you meant the wires, then ther is enough slack. I used the old AM radio and compared the spacing for the knobs and the depth of the new radio's face plate.

Thank-you for the info, it helps alot. I'm looking into it now. I have a faceplate to gauge the pots from my indefinately suspended marriage of old and new Chrysler radio project from another post. I still would love to do that project but too other projects to devote the time and focus. someday. The RetroSound is probably the easiest for now.

Please post some details and pics of your installation since we can all learn from one another's project.
