AAR Cuda hood on ´71 Roadrunner?

AAR Cuda hood on ´71 Roadrunner?

Hi Guys,

I would like to ask you if you know if a Cuda hood will fit on a 71 Roadrunner? Or is the Cuda hood shorter? -I know that the enginebay and firewall are similar on B and E body cars, but will the cool AAR hood fit?

I haven't measured the length of each hood, but they should be fairly close. The one problem that does come to mind is th eshape of the leading edge. The B's is flat and the cuda has a slight point to it. That would take quite abit of work.

How about taking a stock satellite hood and making and AAR ( or NACA) scoop out of that with fiberglass or carbon fiber? The hood accents give you the basic footprint to work from.

Just a thought.

Hey Road chicken,

that might be a good solution to it. Maybe buy an AAR cuda hood and cut out the scoop, place it on the satellite hood and get on with the filler and sanding! Could be fun and a lot of work:-)

I have attached a Photochop of a AAR Roadrunner, I like how it lookes!

I was thinking along a slightly different line- that would be more work.

You'd have to measure the inside of the satellite hoods accents and the outside edge of the AAR scoop. I think the AAR would drop right inside the accents.

They have new Carbonfiber mat here in the states. If you had a willing friend... I would wax the AARhood and then use it as a mold for the carbonfiber. Then, take that carbonfiber and attach it to the Sat hood. Of course there would be finishing work. But I think it would look better with a wide mouth aar-style scoop. From what I understand, that style scoop really doesn't work well on a car for "ram air".

I agree, it would look cool.

Basic aerodynamics... a scoop has to get above the "boundary layer" of air flowing over a car to work efficiently. So the T/A and Six Pack (A12 car) style scoops are more functional, but you probably have to get into something like what the Pro Stocks run to be truly efficient.

Yes, that means the air grabbers on our cars aren't a really good example of an efficient scoop either...

That said, I've always LOVED the look of the AAR hood and it looks killer in that photochopped image!

I'd say the best way would be to get jsut the scoop and mold it in between the contours with some fiberglass? The scoop would probably fit into the lines. That's what I was thinking with the 73-4 style RR hood. I think the cuda hoods are quite a bit shorter. I always thought they were pretty close, but I was looking at a challenger the other day, adn it looked really small compared to the Bs.
