Bench front seats

Post by Sean » Fri Jul 27, 2012 12:41 pm

Hey guys. Will a 73, 74 charger split front bench seat fit in a 71 roadrunner, and can I still use 71 roadrunner seat covers?

I'm going to tag this for later.

I will put my answer in and say it will work and you will be able to use 71 Road Runner seat covers and foam for your Road Runner.

I think all 71-74 B body cars used the same seat frames just like E body cars are the same but you can not use the same bucket seats from an E body in a B body car. I dont even think the seat tracks from a B body car will work with E body seats.

The experts will be along soon.

The bench and tracks will fit as the floor pans are the same. I don't know if you can use the covers and foam on a different year frame though. If they are like A-Body benches then they changed through the years.

71-74 B-Body Buckets and tracks are the same as 71-74 E-Body Buckets and tracks as long as they are the hardback versions. Just use the correct foam and covers for the car, the frames and tracks dont matter what year they are except 70 because they use a different release mechanism (slide instead of push)

Also 70 bucket seats with the pot metal hinge covers did end up in 71 cars.

Ok just learned something. My 70 had the wrong seats in it from a FORD and I had 73 Cuda seats to go into the car but no seat tracks.

Good info glad I tag this thread.

HAHA that would be interesting and makes you wonder why people did what they did. I think mine were Mack One seats. They had to redrill the holes.

That brings up a question if all years 71-74 year B body cars. Will the holes line up from just a regular bench seat and a budy beanch seat?

Yes they will interchange. I bought a '72 Satellite Sepring Plus once to pull the front seat out of it to install in my '72 RR. I put the bench seat out of the RR into the Satellite, and sold it. I also changed the trunk lids because the Satellite was an early build, and had the trunklid with the cutouts for a rear wing. The RR was a later build, and had the trunklid without the cutouts. Fortunately for me both cars were gold, and matched the bodies perfectly. I liked the fold down arm rest seat better because it looks like you have bucket seats in the car when you're going down the road. They don't know that it's a bench seat. Just a matter of personal preference for me. I do not like bucket seats in '68 to '70 Road Runners, except in a Superbird. The old shoebox Runners to me just look better with a bench seat in them. In turn, I don't like a bench seat in a '71 to '74 Road Runner because to me the more modern body style just looks better with bucket seats in it. I'm sure others will disagree. But then that's why we all don't drive VW bugs.

The seat that I bought is a high back armrest strato bench. It looks like buckets on the top half, and the bottom bench. They do need new back panels.
