Well had some time this week to tear down a lot of my car. Should I be worried that I told my brother/mechanic that I was going to pull the motor and he said "why?". Well, anyway my plan is to do what I can, label and photograph everything so that someday it goes back together. Will probably hire out some of the metal work to someone who knows what they are doing, but other than that it's an experiment.
After taking off the passenger side fender and finding a little suprise I kept asking myself "what the h$ll are you doing?" Anyone want to hazard a guess before I post a picture? My only clue is for you is I am almost 100% sure it was from the factory and on it's both sides.

Re: Progress?????
All I see on the driver side is the swiss cheese access panel. Not factory! LOL

Re: Progress?????
I removed the mud and silicon and was worried about the moisture that was trapped underneath. Luckily it was just surface rust and cleaned up today with just a little elbow grease.
I don't know if they did it to prevent water from working in or for sound dampening.
It was weird, but it had brown and butterscotch over the top so I don't think mine is the only one.
