Help me ID this dash wiring

Post by 471Magnum » Sat Feb 25, 2012 5:13 pm

Running the wires for my remote trunk release and I came across these loose connectors behind the ash tray. I've been trying to decipher them using the 71 FSM diagrams I have (my car is a 72).

The green wire and blue wire have terminals on the end. The were taped over. I put some heat shrink over them to be safe.

The grey plug has a black wire with red tracer and blue wire with yellow tracer. The other end with grommet is also under the dash.

From what I can tell they are either for the headlamp washers, or concealed headlamps, neither of which my car has.

The black plug has a blue w/white trace, a gray and a brown w/yellow trace. I'm completely lost on the black plug. I don't find anything like that on the diagrams.

Harness looks is definitely a newer replacement. Wondering if it's a Charger harness or something.

Not being on the 71 diagram has me thinking that black plug is for the fasten seat belt indicator (which is missing on my car). Correct?

I found this shot on a Charger forum, a discussion about hidden headlamp relays. Looks like the wiring you have pictured, including what appears to be a circuit breaker with threaded posts accepting ring terminals. Looks like you have a Charger dash harness.

The wiring diagram also references the headlamp washer. It's pretty cluttered and confusing.

Do you have standard or rallye dash? Anyway,my 72 book shows it for the seat belt relay. But it shows a blue wire not a blue with a white tracer. Shows it for satellite and baracuda. The big blue ring wire may be a 12 volt feed to the voltage limenter. You might have a standard cluster out of a 72

No. It's almost certainly a Charger harness.

One of the connectors in the Op’s picture is for the mid-year 72’ & up seatbelt warning relay as indicated in both rallye and non rallye 72’ wiring diagrams. The other leads/connectors are not referenced in any of the Plymouth diagrams I have.

I don't have a version I can post, but my 71 Plymouth FSM shows the headlamp door relay. Why, I don't know.

Sure enough, on page 8-176 of the 71’ FSM, relay, circuit breaker and all the color codes of the connectors you have. Must have used the same diagrams in both the Dodge and Plymouth FSMs in 71’.
