Hood springs question

Post by xray » Wed May 10, 2006 10:20 pm

Are the springs heavier for an air grabber hood or are they the same the ones on a stock hood. I think I remember them being stronger for the extra weight. Is there one from another application that would work?

Good question. The 71 parts book does list a different spring for use with the fresh air hoods. The same part number is also used on 71 chargers without the fresh air hood (maybe because the charger hood is bigger?) But from experience the regular flat hood springs work fine.

The hood springs on my Runner are the ones from the standard RR hood. Now that I have the Air Grabber on the car they won't hold the hood open. I have to use a prop rod. There's NO question that the AG setup is heavier, so if the parts book lists different springs for the fresh air hood I can understand why...
