Question!! When we were doing my grill the silver was faded real bad.I thought that it was argent silver but the paint man grabed the ends for the headlight and turned them up to reveal the underside where the sun never hit it and it was a lot barker than regular argent silver, so that is what we painted it. Was that wrong?Anybody researched this? Is mine all messed up now.

Hi guys

not to hi-jack the thread but I would like to ask you regarding my 71 RR-grill; It is all black plastic. I don't think it has ever been painted, just plain black plastic. No paint on the lower lip nor inside the light bezels.

Is it a factory option, a factory mistake or a spare grill, etc.?

The plain black grill subject came up in a previous post or two, with no difinitive answer that i could find. I will throw out an edgumicated guess to stir up some discussion. Your guess on it being a spare unpainted part is a good one. Maybe they left it for the body shops to color match? My guess is that it was installed on the 1971 RH23 A93 Package Satellite coupe, or the 1972 RL21 Satellite coupe. These two cars were the bare bones stripped down how can we get the price down to a minimum Satellite. Seems to me that not putting paint on the grill would save Chrysler a few pennies, which would go along with the bare bones Satellite theme. If you could share the part number that is on the grill, that might help to shed some light on the mystery. Any other guesses out there?
Scott.

I don't have any technical knowledge that I can add to this - but I do have a 71 GTX with an unrestored grille - and while it does have the painted bottom edge - you have to try pretty hard to see where the inside of the light bezels were painted argent. They are mostly black with just a partial spray of argent. Not a precision operation since each bezel is a little different. On the opposite side you can see the argent was sprayed right on the grille. I guess my point is that back in the day - quality control probably let some things go by that weren't right. The The smaller the issue - probably the easier to get by.

3M makes a stripper named Safest Stripper. It works great. I use it a lot with good results on dash bezels and other interior parts. Use a tooth brush to get in corners and wood grain. It helps to wrap the part in a plastic bag like stated above. I left some test pieces in it for two weeks with no damage at all. Hope this helps!

I had both a 71 and a 72 sat,and both the grills were silver, thats why when i got my roadrunner I thought the color was not right so i painted it black. Did not know better at the time.
