You are saying that air grabber cars should have 440 on the fender?

LArry
That's what the factory engineering documents indicate....in fact they indicate 340, 440, and 440+6 decals in this location for 72 air grabber cars equipped with these engines. Can't say I've seen an original 340 72 car with these though....and you have the only known 440+6 car...

Now those are drawings I have never seen. And Can't say I have ever cars with it. I also don't recall the parts book showing numbers there. I would love to see those drawings. Anyone have a copy? This is what
I love learning new stuff. I also noticed that according to the parts books the Tank Track stripes were available in White although I don't recall ever seeing those either. But I do remember a black car with black striped years ago.

The 72 tank tracks were available in both white and black. They were coded on the fender tag V9X (black) or V9W (white). The fender mounted engine callouts were also available in white and black, but the color was determined by the body paint color (white for an FE5 car). These were not coded on the fender tag.

I have the factory engineering documents, but unfortunately my scanner died a couple years ago and I haven't yet replaced it.

Only 440 RR/GTX car with N96 for 1972 got fender call outs.
They were below the GTX emblem, not above the side marker lights like 1971.
No fender call outs for 400 cars with N96 for 1972 (I do not think 340 cars either)
Though my 400 has them above the marker light on my 1972 RR.
They are not correct but look very cool so I'll keep them on.

David's car is correct on N96 RR/GTX for 1972

Ahh! My favorite subject once more. Here’s an older discussion on this very topic. I had commented on that thread about engine call-out stickers on N96 equipped 72’ RR/GTX’s, was kindly debunked and I retracted it after not being able to locate any back-up documentation, anywhere. Eric, I too would die to see an engineering drawing about them. I have distinct memories of them from back then but can’t locate any original part numbers for them. I don’t remember them as large as the 71’ versions however. I choose to use a custom 50% reduced version of the 71’ fender call-out on my car that I had Performance Car Graphics make for me.

There use to be drawings on the Hamtrack historical website but he had to take them down because of copy right issues.
I think I still have a copy in a booklet I bought years ago, I'll see if I can find them today.

I grabbed copies of everything they had on the 72’s before they were taken down, nothing specifically covering 72’ fender call-outs that I can find. As Larry mentioned, nothing in the parts cats about them that I can find either.
Back then it was way easy and pretty common to order up stick-on badges and call-outs from other applications/years and stick them where ever, and on anything. Also there was a lot of dealer body repairs performed on many cars prior to delivery to the first buyer, a lot of that stuff just didn’t get back on where they were originally or in some cases omitted altogether.

The 72 fender callouts are on the same engineering page as the 71 callouts, J411109 section B page 16.0. They list the same part numbers for 71 and 72 for 340, 440, and 440+6 (obviously 383 and HEMI didn't carry over to 72).

I do recall there were two Basin Street Blue '72 air grabber 340 cars out here in my area of southern California that had the 340 decals on the sides of the fenders in 1972. One was a black C-stripe Road Runner, and the other was a white C-stripe Road Runner. In fact the only reason I even knew what the engine was in them. Was because of the decals. They were always going the other way in cruise traffic at night when I saw them. So I never did get to go up and see what interiors they had in them. I often wonder if the air grabber hood I wound up with was possibly off of one of those cars. As the guy I got the hood from said it was off of his buddie's 340 car which he totaled back then.

Original paint?
Emblem in the original location.
Where is the 440 vinyl call out, it should be under the GTX emblem.

It wouldn't matter if you saw the gtx emblem part of the fender on this car. It's not there on this particular original Road Runner/GTX. Just because it's supposed to be there. Unfortunately doesn't mean the guy on the line installed the decals.

1972RM23, can't tell from the shot, is that a N96 car?

The format of this site seems to restrict photo sizes to 640x480, anything bigger will be cut off to the right. If you right click on the pic., then slectect "save picture as.." to your hd, you can view the picture full frame.
