Ya .. understand .. so did you notice the boots I put on the MSD 8.5 wires in my pics? I also put "Header" spark plugs in there that are a bit shorter than "normal" spark plugs.

My starter is wrapped in a heat blanket and I have ended all my header problems.

Before I put the boots on my wires, the wires would melt after about 3 months.

TTI's would be nice...
I am thinking about the hedman elite series. I tried the cheap line of theirs on another car and they fit quite well. I haven't had any collector leaks with the ball & socket style collector they have. They don't seem to be cooking the wires either. anyone tried these?

My car had headers on it when I got it. Personally, I've had worse experiences now with manifolds than with the headers. Somebody told me my starter was fried because of my headers, so began a long search for manifolds and a new starter -- still didn't start. It was the stupid key switch! My wires always seem to get too close to something hot now, even with separators and holders. Plus, the manifolds are too bulky and take up more space in my opinion, and they're a pain to change plugs now, too. I think there are some Dynomax ceramic-coated headers in Jeg's for like 260-270, which I believe is cheaper than Hedman and way cheaper than coated Hookers.

Hooker 1 7/8 are a good choice or even bigger.one of the mistakes people make is getting to small a diameter header for these engines, they like big pipes!

I installed headers on my 383 back in the 70's, the worst thing I ever did.I burned the wire to the starter, I cooked my starter, I had to custom make my spark plug wires so that they would be as far away as posible from the headers,To remove my starter I had to raise the block slightly because the header was so tight I had to to remove the engine motor mount on that side.I will never forget one night I opened my hood and saw a display of sparks where the headers came close to the wires,I switched to 8mm wires and that stopped it.Of couse when I bought my new roadrunner I swore never to put headers on it.With the new technology now I would think It might not be as bad.I Hope! 8)

other thing to watch for on the super comps is clearance to the spedo cable. The headers hug the floor pans pretty close in that area. Also if you still have the factory parking brake cables they tend to touch....DAMHIK

Eric, You brought up a good point I had a B&M floor shifter and melted the cable,so I had to reroute the cable. Nice avitar!! I like your taste in color :)

P.S. I see you are from ohio, I purchased my roadrunner from ohio.

I've melted a couple of those B&M shifter cables over the years too....they're expensive to replace!
Do you have a butterscotch car too? Lets see pics!!!

I have not added any new pics to my hosting site, but these are what I have. I have an auto body guy looking to give me a quote for the engine bay to be painted.
