Trim Rings

Post by 74roadbird » Tue Sep 27, 2011 7:32 pm

I'm looking for a set of 4 trim rings for 15" Ralleye Wheels. Anybody know of someplace to get them or good repro's? The ones from Coker Tires are nice looking, but they/re stainless and don't really go well with the Argent color of the rims.

Looked at the Wheel Vintiques website. They list a polished trim ring for a 15 x 7 rim. I have 15 x 8's in the rear. Will the same rings fit, or do I need to get something different. I haven't seen anything for 15 x 8 listed anywhere.

From my recent extensive research on that matter nobody makes reproduction trim rings specifically for the reproduction 8" and wider reproduction rallye wheels. The 15x7" trim rings will mount up to the wider wheels however there will be a gap where the inner edge of the rings would normally come pretty close to the inner wheel. For appearance sake, IMO, this diminishes the reflection of the center holes and looks a little odd. If the gap doesn't bother you they will fit. I started out with a 8" rear wheels and switched out to the 7" width for this reason. Wheel Vintiques makes both polished and brushed versions of that trim ring, for 74' the brushed would be correct if that is a concern. IIRC, polished is correct for 1970 only with 71' and up brushed for the rallye wheel.
I had purchased a set of rings a few years ago, went to use them, turns out they were polished, see pic.

The polished looks pretty good too! I bought a pair for 7" and a pair for 8" from Coker Tire, but they happen to be stainless. They fit correctly but the shade is off a little. Since nobody makes the brushed or polished aluminum for 8" rims, maybe I'll stick with the stainless for a little whil, and see if they grow on me. Thanks for all the information and pics. The car should be done (drivable) by the end of Oct., so I'll post some pics at that time. I may be getting pics of the wheels on the car this week. If I do, I'll post that to get opinions on the looks of the stainless trim rings.

Here's a pic of the 8" wide Ralleye Wheel with a stainless steel trim ring from Coker tires.Doesn't reflect the rim like the polished aluminum, but I may be able to live with it for now!
