We all wish

Post by Johnnymopar69 » Sun Aug 28, 2011 12:42 am

We all wish we could have kept every car we ever had or should have bought but I have one horrible regret that still haunts me. I had a super solid and straight 73 Charger SE Brougham with 400 2BBL I was restoring and my friend had a 72 Charger SE Brougham with a 400 4-speed he was desperatly trying to sell for $400. I bought his power bulge hood to help him out for $400 and he scrapped it. Bummer for me because days later I found out they only made 216 of them. I know they made a zillion of my car but his was rough that is why I passed, his was top bannana with black interior and console. Bummer, almost as bad as passing on a plum crazy Twister for $300 or a primered 383 Cuda ragtop for $6500. I had the cash in my pocket everytime but didn't do it. Hindsight everyone has it.

Coulda had:
a 71 Barracuda convert, complete parts car for $2500 (mid 80's)
71 Cuda 383 4 speed with a superbird wing on back $2500 (late 80's)
71 Challenger 318 with solid body $1200 (mid 80's)

My 71 GTX is a Coulda story that I did get, only a few years after initially losing it....I first seen the car at a garage sale for $800....I lost track of car and thought it was gone....found it a few years before leaving AK....$1400 with a Air Grabber and a hemi 4 speed, no motor....
I wish that I could have kept my 71 Roadrunner....383 auto with a air grabber and hemi suspension sold it for $2500 in mid 90's
had a 69 Charger RT/SE with a 4 speed and Dana, sold it for $300 (mid 80's)

Big mistake! sold my 1969 super bee(bright green,whitestripe,383 auto ramcharger hood) in 1982 for 300.00 because i was getting married and thought i needed the money.
1974 360 cuda was my daily driver for years finally rust and a wreck took care of that one.

Saw a superbird for 2000 (didnt have the cash)
1971 cuda convertible with shaker 340 and billboards 700.00 (once again didnt have the cash)
aar cuda 2500 (same thing)
1969 coronet convertble 900.00 (this thing was still showroom new)
These were all in the early 1980s

Many more over the years!

I had a ton of mopars from the mid 80's to mid 90's. I wish I had all of them. Heres some that I remember, black 72 ssp moon roof, tor red 72 ssp, 72 RR 340 auto tor red, 71 ssp 400 4 speed sherwood green whit buckets, 71 rr sassy grass 383 4 speed black buckets, 71 rr red auto column, a few other 71 and 72 parts cars, 75 rr black, 75 cordoba triple black loaded, 71 challengter rt 383 4 speed b5 interior and exterior, basin street blue 72 cuda 340 4 speed, 72 demon 318 3 speed, 72 blue 400 auto column rally charger, 72 triple black 440 4 speed rally charger, 76 feather duster 440 auto this was a drag car ton o fun, 79 magnum gt t tops 400 auto floor had factory tach, am fm cb, 79 fury wagon converted to auto on floor with buckets and loaded with every option I could stick in it. I did have a few fords and Gm cars I sold thes right away there are a few of them I wish I had too. Most of these cars were bought and sold to help pay the bills. It was a good time for classic muscle especially mopars. I used to hoard cars and parts. It was when mopars were really starting to bring top dollar. I wish I could have kept them all. now I have one mopar. 72 tor red SSP, it's a solid car and very complete except for the motor and trans. I picked it up in Memphis 5 years ago. it's going to be black inside and out. I have most of the parts except some of the 4 speed parts, just need to get some time to work on it. I haven't done any form of body work for at least 10 years and I am looking forward to it. I can't believe I stopped painting cars for construction.

I have herd many stories of the one that got away. I fortunately kept all my important mopars:) The one that i most regret not buying was a 1970 Challenger convertible with a 383 auto and black interior. The guy had the car since high school and he showed me a pic of him and the car after he just got it. Don't know when the pic was taken but the guy was young and the car looked great. The condition of the car when i saw it was not the best. The car was complete not a thing missing. I offered him $3000 and he said he would take it(late 80's). I got his info but decided not to buy it because of the rust issues it had. It would have needed all new floor pans trunk and other miscellaneous repairs. No bondo and only some small rot behind the rear wheels on the outside. I now see basket cases on ebay going for twice what i could have paid. Two other cars i might have had was a 69 Charger RT and a 71 GTX. Both sat outside of junk yards and they couldn't sell them for some reason. One was an impound and they sat there for a long while. Lets hear some stories of the one that didn't get away. Reading this stuff is depressing
