Good news is I got the insurance check today.

Bad news is that I called to follow up on the shipping status of my valance and was told, "we haven't found one yet". I was led to believe that they had one confirmed in inventory when they took my card number. Guess not. I'm a little irritated at the moment.

So my hunt for a valance is back on. Might have to go with a modified non-tip valance, or try to straighten my old one.

Jimmy Boros stopped by my place yesterday and I believe he said he had one or was picking one up this weekend. I think his number is 763-229-6888

I've been in contact with Jimmy. He knows I'm in the market so I'm sure he'll be contacting me if it's worthy.

Little update for everybody regarding the collision repairs.

As mentioned previously, I received the check from the insurance company. I then proceeded to buy parts. I kind of held off a little bit because in the middle of this I’m also building and installing a new motor in the car. Garage space is limited.

I’ve got the bumper, exhaust and rear valance. After quoting me a price on a valance, Stephen’s stood me up and could not come through with one. Wasted a couple weeks with that exercise and locating decent part.

I doubted the appraisal for repairing and refinishing the valance was adequate to get the job done. Now that I’ve got the actual panel I plan to use, I brought it to the body shop for an estimate. Their estimate to repair and refinish the panel was about $300 more than I got from the insurance company. I’ll be forwarding that number on to Hagerty for further review.

This weekend I plan to start the remaining dis-assembly. I’ve already got the exhaust off, but still need to remove the bumper and old valance. I suspect that I’ll find some bent bumper brackets along the way.
Next week I’ll bring both valances to the body shop. I should be able to get the work completed in time to reassemble the following weekend. At least that’s the plan.

Glad to hear you've got a start on it. Hopefully things keep working out little by little.

Pulled the bumper and rear valance off today. Found some more bent sheet metal.

Not sure how I want to approach the repair. Since there is no finish work involved, I could probably pull it straight myself. I'd be more inclined to let the body shop deal with it if I wasn't concerned with the possibility that it might be stuck there for several weeks.

I'm still trying to wrap-up my motor install, so I really can't take it to the body shop in the current state. I'll probably have the motor ready to fire this coming weekend though, if not sooner.

Tomorrow I'll be bringing the valance in for paint, so that will give me a chance to talk it over with the shop.

Got the valance back from the paint shop today. Looks pretty good. I can see a minor wave, but it won't be noticeable on the car. Color match isn't perfect (by my very critical eye), but again, it won't be noticeable on the car. Be a different story if it were a door or a fender.

Spent some time last night and today pulling the metal behind it back into shape. Might need another tug or two, but it's pretty close to being back where it needs to be. Might need a shim or two to get it perfect.

As soon as I can get an extra set of hands in the garage, I'll mount it.

Hit a snag on the exhaust system. The Pypes kit I ordered was not even going to come close to mating up with my TTi headers. You can read about that fiasco on Moparts if you're interested. Anyway, a new 2.5" TTi X-pipe system is on the way.

I'm hoping to have everything back together and firing up that new motor before the end of the coming week.

I hope everything works out well for you.It would be unfair for the repairs to be a pain, after all that happened.

The new TTi exhaust isn't shipping until tomorrow, so it is unlikely that I will receive it this week, much less get it put back together. Going to drag into next week.

Generally, it's more economical to start with a better panel than try to straighten a bent one. Frankly, the one I got from Jimmy to replace it was rougher than expected. Took a fair amount of work to straighten. In hindsight, it probably would have be less expensive just to fix the old one. Had insurance not been picking up the tab, I probably would have taken issue with it.

Was at the local food market last night getting in my rr when this guy stated he had one like mine years ago. One thing led to another and with that he mentined he still had a new bumper for a 72 rr i followed him home and bought the new front bumper $220.00. Now i dont know if i want to take off the painted bumpers that i painted to hide flaws or put the new one on and live with the rear bumper any suggestions Car can be seen in photo bucket .As luck would have it this fella is going to restore the interior sept.6.Thank you
