'71 Air Cleaner

Post by droptop » Tue Mar 29, 2011 8:19 pm

Should the air cleaner on my 383 powered '71 RR be wrinkle finish, or a semi gloss? I have seen both. It looks to me that the semi gloss would be easier to keep clean, but the wrinkle finish just looks cool.

Do you think it could be where it was built? Mine is a St. Louis car.

I suspect it had to do with multiple parts suppliers. I really can't say it was a single finish per plant. I've seen both on St Louis cars. Also can't say it's an early build vs. late build thing.

I do like the wow factor that the wrinkle finish adds, but what about cleaning? Are they hard to keep clean? On a semi gloss finish you can just wipe and go. Any thoughts?

My roadrunner is a late build (June 10, 1971) out of St. Louis. Most of the car is all original untouched and the air cleaner is a smooth black finish, not wrinkle.
