72 disc brakes

Post by Clone Runner » Wed Mar 23, 2011 9:21 pm

i need to replace the rotors on my 72. im having trouble finding them. i was told the rotors first appearded in 72 and changed for 73? is that correct? so they are a 1 year item. i have searched everywhere and can only find these ones http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BEN-PRT1046/ no local parts store can even get them. i've seen them conversion kits but they are $900 and up.

I always check RockAuto www.rockauto.com

They have them but at $100 Summit may be better.
RockAuto had them slotted and drilled though.

I believe they came out in '70 and used through '72.

Holy crap!! $62?? Um, yeah, jump on them.

I've not seen these rotors available for less than $180/ea in years. I wonder if Bendix started re-issuing them?

Put it this way, I paid $200 for a pair of rotors from Carlisle 6 years ago and was thrilled with the deal.

Yep, correct rotors for our 71 and 72 cars are very expensive. They have smaller spindle openings than for the 73 and 74 b-bodies. I was stoked at first when I scored a set of spindles/calipers/rotors off a 73 Satty, then realized they were not the right size. So then I looked into using the whole set up, but discovered the spindle height (between the upper and low ball joints) was about 3/8 of an inch too short. I have heard of people using the 73/74 spindles and adjusting the cam bolts on the upper control arms to compensate. I havent tried that myself, I will probably try and stick with what was properly engineered for my ride.

Dr. Diff sells adapters to use the later rotors on the early spindles.

Sorry, I have no links or phone # handy.

Wanted to bump this...just for giggles, I checked Advance Auto Parts for these rotors. They have Wearever rotors for $54.99. They look just like the rotors I paid $200 for.

Here's a link: Part No. YH141072

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp ... fragment-1

Note: These were found as a 'direct replacement' for a '72 SSP with a 'U' code...but the link doesn't state rotor specs.

EDIT:

However, this $155 unit from NAPA looks a lot closer to factory than the Wearever units...note the 'ribs' on the inside of the hub area.
