Home made 72 Road Runner Grill..comments?
Hello fellow Mopar Lovers,
I do restorations for a living and a 19 year old kid brought me a 72 Satelite that he wanted to make into a 72 Road Runner clone. He needed / wanted a grill and they are hard to find and when you do find them they are very expensive and he doesn't have alot of money to spend on a used grill that still will need to be painted at minimun. So...I took his 72 Satellite grill and made a representation of the 72 Road Runner grill and I think it came out pretty good. I haven't figured out my time that I have invested in this but I think about a week from start to finish. I thought I would post a picture and see what my fellow Mopar guys and gals think. I also found the correct hexagon screen that they used in behind the grill. I haven't made that yet, but shuld be simple to make. I have more pictures also, I have repaired and restored all types of grills and consoles so if you need something repaired or made... Feel free to post here or send me an e-mail at; glr7069@ptd.net

Nice work. How much did you charge the kid? It's cool to see someone making something work. I hope you don't mind a little constructive criticism, The center opening is too small and the ends should be rounded. With some work you sell these! Keep up the good work.

Thanks, I think he will like it very much!.
As far as your suguestions.... The grill opening on the one I made is actually larger than the original 72 Road Runner grill (I have another customers grill to compare it to) . I am sure I could make the ends of the headlight bezels rounded but that would have taken alot more time and more material costs and I was trying to keep the cost down as low I I could so he could afford it and other people that wanted this type of grill could do it or have me make one for them at a reasonable cost.

this thing looks great....Love seeing a photo with everything together and on the car. Would be nice seeing a close up pic too...the 72 RR grille is the only thing about the 72 I like better then the 71.

No one makes the back part of the grill that I am aware of. I hand made the back part of the grill using steel that I purchased.
Re: Home made 72 Road Runner Grill..comments?
I know this thread is a couple of years old but I am hoping to get some information about what you did (GLR) to make this grill. I think I am going to go this route because I can not find a 72 RR grill. I have some ideas about how I want to go about this but would appreciate any input that would be helpful. I think the 72 RR grill is one of the coolest grills that was put on a RR. My car is not a RR but it still would look sweet with one on it especially since I am putting an air grabber on it. Thanks in advance!!

I can see making the centre section but the outer- that would be tough--Id like to see what some members have come up with here

Could some post up the measurements of the hexagon grill mesh. I am looking for the size of the mesh itself not the overall measurements. I am trying to find the correct mesh. Thanks

On a side note....When I purchased my 72 SSP it had a complete 72 Roadrunner grill in the trunk...everything is there....the mesh, mounting hardware, plastic, emblems etc....it is not cracked and in really nice shape...What is a fair asking price for it?
Sometimes I get to feeling that if Xmas, Fathers Day and my Birthday did not exist, then aftershave too would not exist.
Re: Home made 72 Road Runner Grill..comments?
I don't think I've seen a fair asking price for a 72 runner grille....everyone thinks they're made of gold
AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!
