Re: What is the difference between a Road Runner and a GTX?
Having owned a '74 RR with a 400/auto, I know that the only engine that came with the GTX was the 440. Back in '92 when I had the car, there was believed to be around 300 GTXs built in '74 (which matches other numbers listed here), but as far as I know, there is no number for the 400-equiped RoadRunners. Although, it was thought by Gailen(sp?) that the number of 400RRs could be equal or less than the GTXs...thought was, if the average person was going to pull the trigger on a BB car back in '74, at the height of the insurance and gas craze, why not order up the 440 GTX package with all the other goodies?
I was also of the belief that the difference on the '73/'74 RR hood vents was based on the year, not the engine package.
Also, with regards to the differences between the RR and GTX, I believe that the '71 GTX comes with clear lenes in the front valance, VS the amber ones.

Ideally it was marketing strategy. The gtx was the chrysler division's answer to gmc's gto. They came up
with something to fight back for car sales. And as it progressed through history with the pettys becoming a
major mopar driving force. The GTX became a luxury muscle car vehicle it was very nicely manufactured
in the earlier phases. Making a GTX the gentlemans musclecar. However as it progressed not everyone
could afford the GTX packages. So the roadrunner was the bottom line cheapest performance vehicle for
buck. The roadrunner was monickered for the sale with warner brothers to make it appeal to the younger
generations. But it was a no frills speed demon. Outperforming the charger in several different race
circuits primarily the 1971-1972. Also the body lines by the manufacturer deisign engineer stated that
1971-1972 roadrunner was a better body style then the barracuda. And bottom line in my opinion after
driving charger's barracuda's challenger's. I will say that the roadrunner had been controllable fear. While
the dodge charger 1971-73 handled a lil bit better stock then the runner on the highway. The runner is way
more controllable manuverable and responsive under the same power packages. But i digress to answer the
question GTX=luxury Roadrunner=raw speed answer=cost

Re: What is the difference between a Road Runner and a GTX?
GTX was standard 440 and buckets seats among other little trinklets. The GTX was known as the BOSS when it first hit the track circuit then Ford realized what a great slogan The Boss was and trademarked it for their mustang. The GTX was the most expensive model then the Satellite Sebring Plus then the Roadrunner and so on an so on and Yes because of options the GTX and SSP had a lot more standard options
Anyway regardless of whether you have a GTX or a Roadrunner they are all basically Satellites anyway.
And as far as I am concerned are still the original BOSS.

Sometimes I get to feeling that if Xmas, Fathers Day and my Birthday did not exist, then aftershave too would not exist.

Re: What is the difference between a Road Runner and a GTX?
in 1967 it is a belvedere gtx not a Satellite gtx
in 1968 - 70 the belvedere line and all it's models come from the Belvedere line.
When the Roadrunner came out in 68 it was a Belvedere coupe. Then late production they introduced the hard top. So it was a model of it's own.
It was RL-Belvedere, RM-Roadrunner, RH-Satellite, RP-Sport Satellite, RS-GTX 68-70
71-74 It's the Satellite line, because they dropped the Belvedere name.
71 is
rh Satellite Sebring
rm road runner
rp Satellite Sebring plus
rs gtx
there are no RL Satellite CARS
72
RL Satellite
rh Satellite Sebring
rm road runner WITH A 44O IS A ROAD RUNNER GTX
rp Satellite Sebring plus
NO RS CARS
