air grabber hood question

Post by tor-red » Thu Feb 24, 2011 12:28 pm

Been lurking here for awhile, lots of knowledge here. I will be picking up my SSP sometime this spring. A buddy up north found it in a barn he was working on. It's a very solid body with only two dime size rust spots in the lower quarters. It needs some minor body work on the right side but it's not bad at all. It is basically a shell but does have the dash frame with the VIN and fender tags. This worked out good for me because I have been squirreling away parts for a few years now with the hopes of finding a body. According to the tags the car is tor-red with a white interior. It came with a 400/auto combo that is long gone. I have a couple of 400's a 72 and a 74, both are HP motors. I was looking for a Runner but this SSP has a very clean body and I could not pass it up for the price. I have everything for the air grabber except the hood. I do have a Satty hood that I would like to put the AG stuff on. I have searched here for pictures of what the hole looks like but everything I found doesn't show enough detail.

Does anyone have any pictures of the top and bottom of an AG hood without all the AG stuff on it so I can cut the hole. I only have one hood and the car I bought does not have a hood and I don't want to fudge it up and have to hunt down another hood (flat hoods are getting hard to find these days).

If this car was a little more complete I would restore it as a SSP but like I said it's just a body so I figure I might as well use the Road Runner parts on it.

I do have some pictures but they are actual photographs and I don't have a scanner to put them on my computer.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Ron! Do you know if the rear brace on the under side gets cut at all? It's been a long time since I had my 71 Runner and my memory fails me, but I vaguely remember seeing that rear brace being notched a little, or does it run even with the opening in the rear? I could be wrong and thinking about some other car with a scoop on it.

I hoping some one here will have a picture of the under side of a bare AG hood because I'm going out to the shop and cutting the hole tonight and I would like to have the hood ready so I can start to test fit everything so I can get this project started. Thanks Again!!

Here's one I made a few years ago using an original as a template. The original is packed away, or I'd get pics of it for you.
