Went searching the old retired AUTO WRECKERS yard again and found 3 x 392 hemi engines, 2 x 1971 340 eng sitting in demons, I found a 69 coronet 500 convertible with a 383 magnum still sitting in it....lots of old mopars with lots of good parts but you really have to look around as some cars are hidden by weeds etc. in fact I have walked past one of the hemi engines at least a dozen times and not noticed it. I am going to keep this place a secret as the guy who owns it is a Ford guy and has no clue as to how hard it is to find this stuff....when is the last time you saw a Hemi sitting at an auto wreckers ???????
I was like a kid in a candy store because in Canada especially where I live parts and cars like the one's lying around in this old yard are gone, anyway I am going back this week probably Fri/Sat with my camera and will take a few pic's and post them....you've gotta see this stuff I could'nt believe my eyes when I found the Hemi's just sitting around collecting dust.

Old Hemis are neat. But are you sure they're 392s? If the car is a '57 or '58 Chrysler or Imperial. There's a good chance they're 392s. But if they're earlier than that, or just have a single 4 BBL intake. Then chances are they're a 354 or smaller Hemi. Depending on what car they're in. Or truck! As the size of the Hemi often depended on what make of Mopar it was in, and the year. You can build them up to go like the wind. But that takes about 10 to 15 grand. As just changing the cam, and the intake and carb, isn't enough usually to wake up an old Hemi to be as good as say a 440 or even a 383. I used to go out to Lions Drag Strip back in the mid 1960s. Once in awhile I'd see a car or truck run that had a stock 392 Hemi put into it, and I thought, "Wow, it's a HEMI. This vehicle should be a rocket ship." Well, mid 16s to mid 17s was usually what they ran. That's when I learned that there are Hemis, and then there are HEMIS. There's no substitute for cubic $$$$$

Re: help decode fender tag
I checked them over and they are for sure 392 Hemi engines.....these 3 are not in cars 1 is in an old shed and 2 are just sitting on the ground. There are a few 383 engines sitting in cars...69 fury...69 coronet..etc
I agree you can't beat cubic inches....I just put a 1967 440 engine into my 72 SSP and man what a difference tons of power. I might try and buy 1 of the 392 engines just to tinker with. he would'nt part with the 383 that is in the coronet as his buddy wants that one it is a magnum eng. Anyways lots of good parts sitting around this yard...trim...rims that sort of stuff I got a 3 core rad from the 69 fury and a posi rear end out of an old roadrunner (sorry the roadrunner is not restorable but good parts) also picked up a pair of rear tailights for spares for my 72 SSP. I am going back but this time I will take pic's and post them.

yeah people love those hemis.recently i was helping a friend out looking for parts for his pontiac.Told him about PAW(performance auto warehouse).Well upon going to their site they now only sell hemi engine related stuff.Going from selling performance parts for every manufacturer to now just hemis. Not sure about that move.

Guys go crazy over hemi's but for a street car I think a 440 is more then enough engine. This place is a goldmine because the parts etc in it you just can't find sitting around anymore. I am going to get what I can and resell it at swap meets I don't need the 392's but someone out there will want one...there are cars with 440's-383's and 340's sitting back there and hard to find parts. We found a 49 dodge 2 door which we are hoping to buy and turn it into a drag car for fun as it is in good shape. There is a 69 convertible coronet 500 or r/t I can't remember but it is a factory 4spd car and the drivetrain is still in it a 383 magnum the car needs a total resto but they did'nt make a lot of them to begin with so it is a rare one for sure. Anyway I am going back there during the week and this time I will take some pictures and post them.
