Darlington with Pam, Gary & the '71 K&K Daytona...

Post by bruce » Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:38 pm

Unfortunately Gary discovered the K&K had some tire rub on the front wheel openings (smoke coming out of the fender scoops!) so he really couldn't press the car too hard on the track...

Here's some pics:

Hate how the software seems to crop the images I've posted via my photobucket...here's the first photo whole:

L to R, Bud Noel, Cotton Owens, Gary Beineke. Cotton really seemed to like the car--stood there studying the monster Indy Hemi for the LONGEST time!

Here's a couple shots of Charlie Glotzbach in the car. Charlie asked Gary how fast he'd been in it and Gary said 208. Charlie said he had been 243 at the Chrysler Proving Grounds.

When he sat in the car, he said it felt "real comfortable"... :D

Awesome cars, awesome videos!!!! In the wind tunnel with the air grabber up, the smoke/turbulence created behind it looks like the arm and hand of an evil ghost or something...pretty cool

Interesting thing about their wind tunnel experiences with both the Superbird and even moreso the K&K is how stable the cars are. Confirms once again that the folks who came up the the wing car concept back in the day really got it right... the only change they made to the K&K as a result of wind tunnel time was to build a larger front spoiler and to mount it further forward under the nose to reduce lift.
