VALVE SPRING PROBLEM!

Post by Smellslike1974 » Sat May 01, 2010 2:51 pm

Okay. When i got my cam,i ordered the recommend valve springs also.First problem was i had with these springs are that my valve spring compressor couldn't be used with them.New springs have the outside spring, and damper and another smaller spring. So the teeth on the compressor couldn't reach to the center to hold the center spring in,it kept shooting out. Finally we went and got a bigger compressor, same problem so we welded longer teeth on it.I got the firsts spring on the head...NOW i have another problem. These springs wont go over the exhaust boot on my valve.WTF!The boots are new that came in my gasket kit.The two springs inside sit right on it.

Can someone PLEASE tell me a solution to this.Do I need new boots and all to go with these double springs???There was no mention of me needing anything with the springs.Ill take pics in a little bit ,check and update.

Its one thing after another.

You can see where it hits the boot.

Is it possible to use intake oil seals on the exhaust valves???Because that my only solution as of now.

because Those springs are for a 0.590/0.640 lift cam to use the one you have.than you use race valve seals p3690963

When you use double or triple springs you cannot use stock valve seals. You have to use teflon ones like these:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-505-16/
But these require the valve guides to be machined!
Or if your guides are in good shape you might be able to get away without using any seal.

Should work, still have to have the heads machined.
Jegs sells the cutter if you want to do it yourself.

Cam and Springs are fine. The problem is with the dual springs the inside diameter is reduced, hence the interference with the stock seal. The steel valve guide on the head has to be cut to a smaller diameter (.530) so the smaller teflon seals will fit.Not that big of a deal. You can buy a cutter and do it yourself with a drill or you might find a machine shop that will do it cheap since your heads are disassembled.About an extra 80.00 or so.
