Tank Tracks

Post by ILUV72RRs » Wed Apr 28, 2010 8:28 pm

I was wondering if anyone out there has a broadcast sheet that shows their '72 Road Runner came with both the C-stripe, and the "tank tracks" across the frontend of their car. Ever since that gal came out with the HB1 Blue Sky years ago sporting both set of stripes. It's like eveyone else since then feels like they need to do it too! Never mind that the spacing on the two sets of stripes is different. Let's put them both on! The only car I know of that had two sets of stripes on it from the factory (was on the broadcast sheet) was a '72 Road Runner/GTX, metallic blue, with V21 & V25 stripes on the hood and deck lid (black), and get this. A white C-stripe! Yeah, that was "unique."

I saw somewhere years ago a "one of four" Plum Crazy big block(440 auto) '70 Coronet convertible found in a Canadian junkyard, this was in the early eighties. They didn't make convertible Coronets.., with a 440??...oh, wait yeah they did, they made four. Truth is back in the day, you could order ANYTHING. Order sheets are cool if they match, sometimes a car they produced with undocumented but 'real' options is even cooler. I have seen some weird Sh**. Never doubt Ma' Chryslers, or a special order customers, imagination....

I will assume you didn't like my blue car with both stripes then.

I would be interested to see the documentation on this car with both the V21/V25 and V8- stripes. I have yet to find a car coded for both the front and rear strobe stripes. They were no supposed to be available in combination according to all factory documentation I've seen.

I've seen factory fender tags that show only the one code on it for the black stripes on the hood & decklid. Then I've seen some that have both codes on them for the black stripes. Same way with the broadcast sheets. Wish I would of had a copy of the broadcast sheet for the metallic blue car. But I don't. That was back in the mid '80s when I saw that. I was at a car show back east at the time.
The last couple of years I write down info on '72 Road Runners whenever I see them just for fun. Including fender tags if I can. Comes from a habit when I used to run the Winged Warrior club for the Daytona & Superbirds. Wish I could say I have hundreds of '72 Road Runner serial numbers. But I don't. All I have so far is 291 serial numbers for '72 Road Runners. Of those, 57 are GTX/Road Runners.
This will probably sound strange. I don't mind both tank tracks & C-stripes on a car together. if you have your Runner set up as say a street machine. But if you're trying to have the car considered stock. Sorry, no. The tank stripes were designed by Chrysler so that if you had a full vinyl top on your car. Then you could get a "stripe" package if you wanted one. Yes, they made non-vinyl top '72 RRs with just the tank tracks too.
Don't claim to know everything. But I did buy a '72 RR brand new back in 1972. Have had a couple over the years since then. Including 2 now. I'll be 63 in June. Have been accused of knowing Peter Pan, ha, ha!

The V21/V25 codes only show on the tags for certain built plants, others only coded V21.
I track 71 and 72 road runners / GTXs / Satellites. Don't have my info here at work, but I probably have 300+ 72 runners and 200+ 72 Satellites.
