71 RR rear quarter pannel emblem & decal ?

Post by joe » Tue Feb 09, 2010 12:51 pm

Does anyone know if it was possible to buy a new 71 RR with the RR decal and the RR emblem mounted on the lower rear quarter pannels in front of the rear wheels? I have only seen that on the 72'S. Or could it have even been applied at the dealership? Or is this not possible?

Never seen a 71 that way. The 71s without strobe stripes had mounting holes in the quarter panel above the rear wheel for the emblems.

I agree the name plates were pinned in both years originally, requiring holes in the panel where they would be. Above the wheel arch in 71’, as described, for 72’ forward of the wheel opening and about 1 ¾” above the detail line. Somewhere around 73’ or 74’ the name plates went with a stick-on backing design. Replacements for the pinned name plates were superseded to the stick-on type, as they are today. The holes were usually filled during panel repairs over the years and stick-on name plates affixed, maybe where they belong maybe not. Original sheet metal should still have holes or show evidence of the filled holes.
