ID of part

Post by roelbest » Mon Jan 18, 2010 6:04 pm

The bracket on the R side fitted above the gas tank on my '72 Roadrunner. What should be inside it, this is how I took it of the car. Something to do with the emission?
Also, the bracket on the L side, should that be a colour, or just bare metal.
Thanks!!

They're both exhaust hangers. I don't recall if the one on the left is normally bare or cad plated.

On the left, that is part of the muffler hanger anchor that bolted to a stud plate protruding though the floor pan behind the back seat on the driver's side. Was installed on cars ordered with dual exhaust prior to any painting or undercoating.
On the right, that hanger supported the passenger side muffler and tail pipe, mounting to the shock cross member above the rear axle right side. All the ones I have ever seen were bare metal originally.

Thanks, I am a bit embarressed, knew the L was possible Exh, but did not reconise the R side one.
My car only had short exhaust up to 1st mufflers, there were no pipes from the axle onwards fitted by previous owner.
Would any one have a pic or diagram of the correct brackets to attach the exh to these bits?
Thanks!!
