Are they still looking for NOS pieces? I have a 71/72 Charger door skin. I think it's driver side.

I can't say for sure on that piece in particular. Anything like that though is definately worth tossing them an email or giving them a call to see if they're looking for that piece. Even if they're not now, they may soon be looking for it (if enough folks keep asking for it).

I know in general they are still looking for parts to make tooling from (67-69 barracuda qtrs for instance). However good used seems to be preferred to NOS due to cost and known fit. Not to say your door skin doesn't fit! But there have been some problems using some NOS parts.

I'm familiar with NOS parts fitting poorly. I've heard that most NOS quarters were assembly line rejects.

I can attest to that, it was an open secret in the dealer parts distribution network back then that most of the replacement sheet metal received as replacement parts were indeed rejected from the assembly lines. Every fender, door and quarter panel needed to be closely inspected for their level of defects. If it was deemed serviceable, it was resold, the poorest quality pieces were returned back to regional distribution.

Unlike mechanical replacement parts with ongoing production, at the end of the production year, depending on the total sales figures for a given model car, the quantity of replacement sheet metal parts needed to service that model for about 5 years was determined. Along with the parts rejected from the assembly line, a final production run of replacement sheet metal parts took place before tooling was dismantled permanently to make way for the next model year.
