steering box removal any tips

I need to pull my steering box for a rebuild any tips on removing it or pics would really help thanks

With or without the engine in place? With the engine in place you're going to have a MUCH harder time of it...

engine in already pulled the manifold off pushed the pin out and the coupler won't move very far what gives

are you rebuilding this to a 16:1 ratio? you can buy a longer pitman arm from www.firmfeel.com from the T/A, AAR cars that gives you 16:1 without going inside the box..otherwise buy a really high quality replacement/rebuild or you will become an expert at changing this part around the third time... I have only heard horror stories about remanned boxes(even from year one) www.flamingriver.com has a nice brand new manual box. Seriously, if you have any mechanical ability buy the manual and do it yourself. Technical Note: On top of your power steering box you will see a plate with two fittings(for the power steering lines) and two bolts. With the engine running jack the front of the car off the ground, the steering should not change. If it does turn one way or another by itself you can adjust this by loosening the bolts and gently tapping the block one way or another. This is often the cause of a pull in the steering. Warning: Way too far one way or the other can apply extreme forces to the steering wheel as soon as you start the engine think of sticking your arm in a washing machine during the spin cycle.Best to never touch those bolts if you don't have to. The only way I have taken out the steering box is to make sure I have disconnected the steering column from the dash AND firewall. The coupler will only move so far. The only way I was able to get the needed clearance was to move the WHOLE column back. BE CAREFUL YOU DO NOT COLLAPSE THE COLUMN!! If the coupler moved a little, moving the entire column back should help slide the coupler off the Box. Goes much smoother with two people, one under the hood, the other inside supporting the column. Hope this helps.
