73 Road Runner door hinges

Post by 73RR » Mon Aug 17, 2009 8:32 pm

Just purchased a 73 RR in real nice shape. However, the doors don't close like they should and there is quite a bit of play in the door hinges. Do you recommend replacing the hinges or going with a hinge pin replacement? I'm thinking replacing the hinge pins and installing bushings will be easier as that repair can be done without removing the hinges and the doors shouldn't need a lot of alignment. What do you think?

FWIW, If you can find them, later year B-Body hinges are of an improved design with the S spring and work much better. IIRC The newer P/Ns were 3788022 and 023.
If you want factory correct, I had mine rebuilt (for a different car) at SMS in New York but I don't know if they are still around. Some peeps complained they were rather high, but I was happy with the services. I'm sure other places re-build as well.

Have yet to try a re-pin, so can't comment on that.
