Air Grabber Motor repair

Post by road chicken » Wed Jan 25, 2006 7:17 pm

Has anyone had any success finding a shop to repair the vacuum motor for the AG?

Most of the shop I have contacted are inthe buisness of power brake booster repair. Howevr those are designed to be rebuilt.

Mine just went south- so after 34 years of service who can be upset?

Are you talking about the actuator that's attached to the hood? If so, yes.
Call Al over at Wilson Productions (314)487-3298. He does a great job and also sells repro. AG underhood parts.

charger actuator has vacuum lines in different place than air grabber actuator, also hook up arm has hole instead of plug and pin., best to get yours fixed.

I concur. I could fix it, but zinc castings are fickle-especially after so many years and extreme heat and cooling cycles. I would rather someone with a good amount of experience handle it- assuming it can be done to look original. Otherwise it would be no big deal to pop it apart- replace the diaphram- and epoxy it back together.

He does a very good job restoring them. Normally he paints them black too, but I had him leave the outside of mine alone and restored it myself.

What's the correct finish? Mine looked like it had always been left natural.

I'm told some were parkerized (gun guys should be familiar with this finish). Mine looked to be natural too so that's how I restored it.

Mine is natural like Butterscotch's pic.

In fact if that is the restored unit- it looks great in regards to the seam of the two halfs.

What did it set you back to have him fix'er up?

That is the restored pic. I told him it would be the natural finish and he was very careful to not damage it. I don't remember exactly how much it cost, but I do remember it wasn't cheap!!!
