Question about 1974 Satellites

Post by Smellslike1974 » Sun Apr 12, 2009 2:11 am

I wanted to ask everyone here a questions concerning 74 Satellites.

Did 1974 Satellites come with shifters on the floor stock?

From all that I have found out I've never heard of this.A guy posted a comment on my cars youtube video. His comment.

"Cool car!! I have an opertunity to purchase a '74 Sebring with a 383cid. It has buckets & a floor shifter that is a handle style in the shape of a 3 sided rectangle. I'm not sure what it is called though. My brother told me Plymouth put the same shifter in 'Cuda's. I'm excited about this car! Why would anyone want anything ITALIAN as long as they can buy a Muscle car?"

I than replied saying it was most likely not stock for that car. Then he replied.

"THE SHIFTER IS DEFINITLEY STOCK. I'M SURE YOU'VE SEEN ONE BEFORE. i JUST DON'T EXPLAIN WELL. THE SHIFTER IS BETWEEN THE BUCKET SEATS & IS APROX. FIVE INCHES VERTICLE ON EACH SIDE OF THE HAND GRIP, & THE ACTUAL GRIP IS APROX. FIVE INCHES WIDE."

From what he says,to me hes describing an aftermarket shifter or i know there's a shifter that resembles a throttle control handle from a jet airplane.Does this satellite sound true to anyone? If so please lay some info down cause I'm clueless. :?

if it's a 74 it would either have the T-handle like mine or they went back to using the woodgrain 70-style knob late in 74, but it is a bit different than the 70 version. I don't understand anything about what he was describing as a shifter.

it could have a 383...a bored out one AKA a 400

Yeah I'm not even gonna bother talking to the guy anymore,It will just most likely end In an argument.

What If this car Is actually a Road Runner, would everything he describes be original to a RR?

no, not necessarily...383s became 400s starting in 72...the buckets and console could be on any car
