short tips or long tips

Post by sogtx » Fri Mar 20, 2009 6:48 pm

Ive had a set of long tips kicking around for a couple years waiting for a car ..

My GTX project came with short tip , my old GTX had short tips

So I ordered a set from BEA yesterday specifying GTX .. I assumed short tips ..

I got long tips .. Just looksd at AZ Nicks car , it has long tips .

What is correct is there a separate code n42 vs ?

Heres a good topic .. :help:

it may have to do with whether or not you car had resonators

Well, there are the very short tips that mount to the resonators then there are two different lengths of tips for non-resonator cars. The Charger tips were the longest.
From what I've found, HEMI cars came standard with resonators and the extra short tips. They were the only ones with resonators standard. The only way you got resonators on a 440 or 440+6 car was if it was ordered with the optional N42 tips and was coded for N97 noise reduction. All other N42 cars would have the non-resonator tips.
BTW, I like most of the stuff Mike (B/E&A) is reproducing, his tail light lenses are amazing, but I'm not at all impressed with his 71-74 tips. I've seen better reproductions.

These are the correct length tips for a non-resonator car (they are reproductions, not NOS). If your are longer, they're for a Charger and will look stupid!
These have about the right color orange on the insert too. Some of the reproductions are too red.
Douglas, I don't remember who was making these. Make sure you look at the tips in person before buying from anyone. None of them look exactly like the originals, but some are closer than others.

Ok

We looked at the parts book yesterday ,,

Theres actually umteen different tips .. 340 cars , hemis , chargers

Regardless , Im fairly certain my car needs the short tips

I had some long bazookas that I bought on ebay years ago and looked at their quality ..

And then i opened up the ones that Mike Ross ( BEA ) sent me.. Holy weight difference ..

Mikes are True stainless steel .. The ebay ones are like sheetmetal thin ..,

Mike sells both long . short , black orange ..

Mikes tips may not be correct as per an earlier opinion .. But I would buy his because of the construction ..,

i didnt have me good Camera , But Mikes are the lower ones , and the trumpets inside look a little funny

compared to the original and upper one. But Ill bet theyll last over 10 years ...

Just my opinion .. Andy

Those are Charger tips. They'll look really horrible on your car. You need the shorter tips like the photo I posted.
I agree, Mike's tips are good construction, just not correct if you're going for originality.
