Rear window molding clip question

Post by BarryBum » Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:12 am

on my 71, the rear window molding clips are missing. The little studs are still in the window channel, but the clips are missing. Can these be purchased and reinstalled without having to remove the rear window? I know on the windshield, the clips kinda go under the glass. I was wondering if the rear is the same??

The rear clips are the same and mount the same as the front clips. I see the correct clips for sale almost anywhere; I picked mine up on e-bay. It was a pretty common type of molding clip, if you take one to a local auto body shop supply store or body shop you may get lucky. The glass itself shouldn’t interfere with replacing the clips its additional sealant applied that creates problems replacing the clips. Originally the fixed glass on these cars was secured/sealed by the butyl tape only, leaving a gap around the glass large enough to service the clips. When leaks developed the quick fix was to fill this gap with sealant of some kind. Should be able to trim the additional sealant around the clips to remove and replace or install in your case.
