Need new Slotted Tips, where and who?

Post by RM21P3R » Sun Dec 25, 2005 2:55 am

Hi everybody, love your forum and was hoping to ask an exhaust question?
I'm looking to find new slotted tips for my 73 r.r. but want the highest quality available...any suggestions who to turn to???
Also, whats the correct insert color? All the vendors seem to be selling them in Red, Orange and Black... whats right? The cars Lemon Twist yellow with a 400/4spd if that somehow makes a difference.

Thanx in advance & Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I believe black was the correct color insert for 73-74 cars. Orange was 71-72 Plymouths and red was Dodge IIRC.

Thanks Butterscotch71! I asked this same question over at moparts and got a few replies, here's a link for anyone wanting to look at it http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/sho ... =4#2245424

BTW, also, had a member there think the 73's had black inserts as well.
Thanks again!

I got mine (for a 71) from pgclassics on ebay, but I dont like the workmanship, the stainless was tacked on three places,I think it should of been welded all the way around. But they still look nice. :)

The factory originals were tacked on like that. I've never saw an NOS tip that looked perfect they all had some kind of flaws. You wont see the welds when they are on your car. Welcome to the nest!

I was very pleased with the quality of the TTI SS tips. TTI’s tailpipes have the hangers fitted to them and not the tips.

Just curious. Is there a way to take that apart to be able to paint the orange inserts or is it not possible?

Nope, they are ONE piece. The best I've been able to do to touch mine up is to spray through the slots with some hemi orange paint and then steel wool the chrome.

My biggest complaint about the TTI tips is that the inside of the tip isn't painted orange like the originals. The ones from B/E&A seem a little too red and don't have the best finish....really haven't found any repros that look factory correct.

While I do understand concerns about “all factory correct” on a show/collector car, in regards to the TTI piece on a “driver”, I do feel that this is one of the rare cases where the quality level of an offered “repo” part exceeds that of the original part. The inside of my tips are already covered with soot, I can tell keeping the outside of the tips clean is going to be a lot of work. I hope I don’t find myself scrubbing out the inside of my exhaust tips after each use as well.

They are welded, thats why you can't take them apart but the tti ones look like they were welded all the way around,Just going by the pic. :)
