Yes, those were a factory option on the '72s. Petty cool and pretty rare too.

V21 and V25 stripes for 1972 Road Runners w/ N96 AirGrabber
Also could be optioned on any 2-door 1972 Satellite.

My friend has a Lemon Twist car almost the same as the one in your picture. It has the factory stripes, and is a 400 air grabber car too. The stripes look cool around the grabber. When he built the car, Year One had told him the stripes weren't factory. So... he originally put a strobe on it.
Then one day he was browsing old car magazines, and came across an original press photo of a 72 Runner with these stripes.
Apparently he was one of quite a few people to argue with Year One about these, cuz now they make them, and his has them again.
