What would it be worth to you??
What would you pay to have your car reunited with its original motor and quite possibly the transmission as well??
A car that I sold many years ago, I still have the motor/transmission for it....it was a 71 Cuda with a 383 HP with Auto....numbers are stamped into the motor and original to the car....transmission, I am not sure of, but we removed it from the car as well....haven't verified it yet....but....I don't think that I am out of line in asking $2500 for the mostly complete motor and then throwing in the transmission to boot....

I would buy this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-383 ... otohosting
And assemble my own for a lot less.
If I needed numbers maching and needed that engine and trans then I might spend that kind of money.
just my 2cents.

I think the question is what is it worth to you. What would you pay for it if you needed it? What would you sell it for if it was not going to be reunited with the original body.71GTX wrote:What would you pay to have your car reunited with its original motor and quite possibly the transmission as well??

I would be willing to pay top dollar for the original motor and trans. but I know I would be doing a fair share of haggling.

yeah, idk about this...if they really wanted to, you can still pick up the "warranty" blocks at some places...it doesn't help the value of the high dollar cars, but doesn't really hurt it either, as if you managed to blow up a bullet proof motor, they'd throw in a warranty one...if i was going to go back to small block, that's what i'd do

Personally, I don't think that $2500 is out of line in my asking price, but its just my opinion....as for the mostly complete motor, everything still together with original heads, its missing the intake, carb and the exhaust manifolds, which were on the car when it was sold....Thing is, most everyone that you talk to is, "going to keep my car forever" until you come upon hard times, then the car goes. A handling package car with its original motor and tranny will automatically raise the value of the car a rather substantial amount.
I know very well that I would be willing to pay that amount to get back my original motor and tranny for my 70 Cuda and my 71 GTX....But I guess that its all in what someone is willing to pay....
Thanx everyone!

I guess my point is, would you be asking $2500 if it was just a motor and trans and you didn't know the original car's owner needed it? I don't think it would bring that much from someone not buying it to make their car #s.

AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!
There was a post like this on moparts that referred to another post on a charger forum where a guy had the #s matching motor from a '69 or '70 charger 500. He put the motor up on ebay at like 2x or 3x what a normal motor would cost.
Well check out this thread on moparts or this thread on dodgecharger.com
Alot of ppl claimed they would rather help someone reunite a car with its # matching motor then make a big profit. There was a discussion with ppl chiming in on both sides. I don't know prices but if you are asking $2500 for both engine and tranny that doesnt sound out of line to me.
