Bad news & good news - engineering drawings on my site

Post by Alaskan_TA » Wed Feb 27, 2008 12:51 am

On the 28th of this month, the engineering drawings at this link will be going away;

http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/pho ... Menu.shtml

One of the Chrysler LLC employees that works in Chrysler Brand Protection has notified me that these drawings are copyrighted and owned by Chrysler LLC. He has asked me to remove them from my site before the 29th of this month, and I have told him that I will comply.

Several people have worked very hard to scan these and make them available for all to see, I was quite happy to provide a venue for that. I mentioned to him that I would hate to see these "go away" forever, so I offered to send him all the scans I have of them if they could be hosted on the Chrysler Heritage website.

His response;

"Thank you for the offer to provide us copies of the prints although it will not be necessary."

This is where the good new comes in! This is another direct quote from him;

"To give you more insight, the reason for my request is that the Chrysler Heritage website is preparing to display these on their site (I don't have timing)."

I of course have asked for more details. I am sincerely hoping that they have other drawings that we did not have on the HH site. Time will tell of course, but I sure hope so!

I have asked him to keep me in the loop and let me know when the engineering drawings on their site go live. I will post an update when one is available.

Is it just the engineering drawings that will go bye-bye?

That's unfortunate, I know you've put a lot of work into getting that stuff up on the site. I didn't notice any type of copywrite notice on my engineering documents.
Hopefully they're not just talk and we'll have access to these and a lot more documents soon!

So do I but just in case I took like 5 mins to make back-up of all the b-body related eng drawings Alaskan TA had there for personal use. Why I asked if it was only the eng drawings are going bye-bye. :D

I thought about making personal backups of the e-body ones incase I ever wanted them but damn ... there are tons of them there.

I'm guessing cause a Chrysler person will track it down and ask rr nest to remove them as well. :(

Yes it is, until about a week ago I use to browse this forum from work without my logon and pw until I got sick of reading and not commenting. After all I'm trying to get my post count up so my title is GTX instead of satellite or roadrunner and i figured if i can post at least as 1/15 as many post as you do Smellslike1974 i can have that title in about a week... :P

:lol: title

I am highlander!
Posts cannot defeat me!

On a more for serious note.

Even though they are copyrighted,whats the point of it,they are helpful diagrams.Even though they are from the chrysler corporation,im sure someone not from the copany could have made the diagrams,hell if i had the parts id make my own.actually i should start doing that,anyone need diagrams from a 74 b body? :D

anyway its the just the copyright of the person who made the diagram,maybe they were sold at one time,idk

Hey guys,

Please do NOT be upset about this. If they are planning what he told me is in the works, this will be quite awesome for all of us.

Their drawings, their site, & better quality if they have originals vs. the scans of copies we had.

Some of the hard work to bring you what we had is down the tubes for sure, but all of them have been available for over a year, some more than two years. If this somehow prompted Chrysler LLC to realize what they could do with what they had available to them, then this would be a very proud moment indeed, and well worth our collective efforts. If a few individuals can show them what can be done, then the corporation should be able to do a whole lot better.

Sit back, stay tuned and hope for the best please, I know I am. :beer:

I just don't trust big company employees..... I figured next time I see those drawings I will have to log on to a Chrysler site and pay a certain $$ to be able to view them. :( Most ppl that pull that copyrighted stuff are looking for a way to make a profit from it. If they are good clean info thats even more detailed then thats one thing but if it just like you had it then personal backups can't hurt.

{edit} Either you are so fast that I dont see you logged on TA you you have it set to not show that you are logged on when viewing the forum. I feel like we got a ninja in our midst.

Good News & Bad News - engineering drawings on my site

Post by dartomotive » Wed Feb 27, 2008 7:15 pm

I also don't trust the corporate world. What do they think I'm going to build one from scratch in my garage on their drawings, then have lawyer sue when it has a problem. Feels like the rug got pulled out under TA and us. If they ever get available, it think it would be a long time away and for some cash. Some of the drawings may help out a hobbist. I don't think GM or Honda is going to try steal 71 RR strobe stripe details.

If they did the right thing they's help us, as Mopar Motorheads got to be loyalist group of car nuts around. With out us loyal guys, they all be looking for work, or worse yet telemarketing me during my dinner. Let's see if they do the right thing. Some accountants own them now. Support your core base Mr. Chrylser. It makes good business sense.

Dartomotive.

I think that someone saw how interesting it was and now wants to make a profit.
