73 RRX Update

Post by 73X » Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:21 am

Finally getting the 73 X back together. What started off as a quick engine removal to freshen it up has turned into a 2 month ordeal. Figured I would go ahead and paint firewall while it was out. Not doing a perfect job as I am going to run the crap out of it this summer and then plan on trading it for something else, but the more I mess with it the more I like it.

I would like to trade it for a 72 - 74 Barracuda, even a slant 6 car will work as long as it's a good driver. I hope a U code 73 will be worth a /6 ebody anyway!!

Bought car without original engine, so I have a low mileage 77 400 out of a cordoba in it, changed gaskets, cam, lifters, new water pump, and timing chain. I always had good luck out of the 400's and picked it up cheap. Figured I would put all the crap I had when I was in high school (not this car, but other mopars I had then), on it just for some fun like aluminum intake, under dash gauges, headers (now I know why I got rid of all of those things 15 years ago, like stripped carb bolt holes, starter changes and all of the other joys that go along with headers).

Anyway, about to get it fired up I hope. Have front fenders ready for paint, doors are done, trunk lid ready (off of a 74 Sundance parts car). Gonna paint a panel at a time and then when I get qtrs done, do an overall paint job and hopefully have some fun in it this summer.

It's a 70 Satellite. I had this car in high school (first pic from around 87' or 88' (my dad's 69 coronet is beside it, the other pics are of it in junkyard and last is whats done on it now), to make a long story short, got married, had a kid, got a 70 Charger R/T and something had to go, not enough room, so it went to the junkyard (it was just a plain 318 satellite afterall, was my thinking at the time and you could still pick them up cheap).

Sat in junkyard from 1990 - 2003 and I finally bought it back, everytime I would go up there I would remember how much fun I had in it and hated seeing it there, so I was able to get it back from the guy, traded a complete 69 383 hp engine for it, I still had the title all of those years!!

Replaced everything as far as body panels go and the taillight panel and both rockers and floor pans. Plan on putting all the GTX stuff on it like I wanted to in high school, black with burnt orange interior, and am going to go with the K5 burnt orange side stripes and hood stripes.

Then in 2006 I found this 73 RRX that i thought I had to have and started on it for some reason. The 70 needs to be blocked to get ready for paint, hopefully I will get back on it next year.

I still have my 70 charger also, it is going to need to be redone sometime, but still looks good from 20 feet away...maybe a little farther.

The brown 71 Charger is my son's, it is a original 383 4bbl SE car, he is putting all the super bee stuff on it.

73X, nice b-bodies you have. I like the last pix of nothing but Mopars. My dad had a 73SSP gray and black. Man did that car go (other Mopars as well).

Thanks Randy,

I just like the orange better than the blue, Not after stock, just want something to run the crap out of this summer. Good to hear from you again, we were talking awhile back about door panels. I have found 2 other 73 X's and they both have the style of door panels in yours, so I think someone just put some SSP ones in mine. I have aset like your style that I am going to use as the front ones in mine now are trashed.
