Diary of work on RR UPDATE Shes back on the road.

Post by 73sunroofSSP » Sat May 17, 2008 11:19 pm

The work to return life to the RR begins at last!!!! Got the bird to my friends last night and started to disassemble the engine bay. Removed all wiring, wipermotor, master cylinder, radiator and hoses. We pull the engine tomorrow then it's time to sand & paint the engine bay. Engine bay going B5 blue.I will try to keep progress posted as it comes along.

LOL Give that man a cigar lol

Yes the damage was due to a fire caused by the carb doing a serious burp and fueled by the oil in the valley of the airgap intake. I'm going to need a new carb I'm going to play it safe by replacing it. I know the carb was the source because the air filter was burned from the inside out.

i always carried one in my glove box...but then i just tested it and it doesn't work, so if i had had a fire, i'd been crap outta luck....if i ever change the shifter and go to no console, thought i'd make a cool bracket to hold one between the seats

It's not getting worked on. We might remove the bellhousing though to repair the threads and clean it due to rear main seal leak. I'm glad I run a copper-ceramic clutch no chance of oil contamination.
